Yes I heard that saying too but it is not true. I was riding a Kawasaki 6R and if you ride this sport bike you know it revs high and you can hear it 6 blocks away. When the red light changed I held back for a second in the right hand lane, I had the feeling the car on my left may make a right turn from the wrong lane. He didn’t, he started up and was more than half way through the intersection, I decided he was going straight through and throttled up (bike makes ‘wake the dead’ high pitch sound) but as I got half way into the intersection, the driver suddenly made a wide turn, right into me. I considered it my fault. Every time I would have jumped out my bike is way faster than the car and for some reason I didn’t this time. Of course he said, “I didn’t see you.” (White and Kawasaki green bike on a perfect afternoon?) never mentioned HEARING me at all.

Those are modified/broken exhaust systems on those vehicles and should be against the law.

Most retirement community's are 55 yrs.+, wouldn't you think at that age, they would have it out of their system?

We have air pollution, water pollution, and now noise pollution.

Your Thoughts Please
I agree, I have often posted about excess noise. Particularly noise coming from the pro-type lawnmowers. Many MUST have been modified to have more OPEN and noisy exhaust systems. I doubt that the manufacturers have ones THAT noisy leaving their factories. I have to put on ear defenders when I am inside my house for a lawnmower cutting 2 houses away or across the street - and yes, the windows do rattle. Harley Davidson motorcycles are inherently louder than Honda or Yamaha. Fortunately, where I live, there is NOT too much Harley traffic and they just do one driveby. But, the lawnmowers are nearby for long periods of time and the lots are small and fencing is NOT allowed and there are often few trees or bushes to cancel some of the noise - it travels mostly unimpeded. The younger guys that cut the grass are strangely so immune to noise or so MACHO that they do NOT wear any ear defenders. In a few years, they will be GOOD customers at the hearing aid clinics. They also smoke so much they better hope for lung transplants in 15 years. And the pro lawn mower people drive their trucks like death and the devil are chasing them. I have never seen them get a ticket for speeding and they are always speeding. They also park their trucks and trailers just about in the middle of the street. And if they are mowing a corner lot they INVARIABLY park their rigs in the busier of the 2 possible streets. Its unbelievable - they seem to stir up all my pet peeves. Older TV Land people that do NOT have sensitive HEARING and are practically deaf, Don't realize how lucky THEY REALLY ARE.

That's a lot of pet peeves...

You must have bat ears if you need "ear defenders" inside, due to a lawnmower two houses away...

Default Noise? I feel that way about half the music at the square.

Barking dogs, complaining geezers, and loudmouth drunks all irritate me. I like loud cars and children laughing.

The lawn people could be riding quiet electric lawnmowers if that were the regulation.

The poor dog obviously has emotional issues as he paces and barks non stop, even when there's no one around. I hear him even with the windows closed and the TV on. I personally would muzzle him when outside, or try other devices to train it to not be a nuisance, but some people simply don't give a s..t about other people's quality of life.
A barking dog is the product of a bad master - I prefer to avoid those.

That loud mufflers save motorcyclist's lives worked only before - everyone now drives around with the A/C on and the windows up.

The subject...noise pollution is interesting to me. I have an inherited hearing loss. Some people have something called "hyperacusis" where sounds that do not bother other people, bother them.

In an area with a lot of new construction there will be a lot of annoying sounds that will very quickly disappear as that area is finished with construction.

Patience. Grasshopper.
I'm in a neighborhood south of 44. Yeah, I know I bought in a neighborhood with empty lots, but damn, it has been a long summer of 7-day-a-week construction. Fortunately, my section of the neighborhood is coming to a close for construction -- the last house is almost done.

I've learned a few things from this latest purchase: 1) check interstate noise at different hours on different days with different weather, 2) be sure you can tolerate new construction for months on end, and 3) that those obnoxious high school football captains, lead cheerleaders, and home-coming kings and queens are back, albeit 50 years later, and still loud and annoying, but with brittle bones and bad plumbing. Ah..., the circle of life.

And they would be buying massive amounts of batteries and passing the cost to you...

But shouldn't you still be able to hear them, two houses away?

Nope, I do not notice that much noise. Perhaps you are too near a main road and should move. I have also heard folks complain about the Pickleball noise. Seems like a lot of things bother the seniors here in the Villages. When you are past the half way point in your life, maybe it's better to set important priorities in one's lifestyle.
