Default Mostly Seniors Left Jobs

Most people who stopped working altogether during the pandemic were 55+ in age. The Urban Institute reports that over 11% of working seniors quit or retired in 2020. Young people dropped out at much lower rates. Here’s a source for the article:

I think today's workers want to be retired without working for it.... It's the way they were taught, like the participation trophies they received just for showing up.

Quitting your job, refusing to work, trying drugs, not being vaccinated, are personal choices people make in their life. Taking responsibility for your choices is all on you. I bet the poster of this has a child or grand child not working and is faced with supporting them. Tough love dictates you need to tell them to live with their choice.

Just curious
Just curious if you are serious about learning. Have you read the book "A man called Ove"?
It may enlighten you about the way generations look at each other. Easy reading, entertaining, quite possibly self reflecting.

One of the best books I ever read. Made me take a little bit of inventory.

Read the book - the movie is in Swedish. However here is a trailer:

- If you have Amazon Prime you can stream the movie with english subtitles. I liked the book better but instant gratification has its rewards also.

I wouldn’t stereotype young people for leaving their jobs that pay slave wages for double the work and no benefits if you yourself are unwilling to pay more for services or products .

I remember kids in the 60's: long hair, pot, loud music, sex............they will never amount to anything.

My reason If one is in great health and is able to drive and can stand the heat this is a great place for amenities that is one positive point. But if your not this is not the best place it will cost you a lot one money to get around by taxi for shopping, doctors appointment, no malls, climate, noise, and restriction. That is why if one wants to move their they must do their dur diligence's. Their a lot of smoke and mirrors about this community.

Won’t have to worry about that , all of my children went to school or military and are gainfully employed. One is a lieutenant in the navy another is a high school teacher and the third is a marketing director. Working and saving. They too are shaking their heads about what’s going on.

I agree. Minimum wage was never supposed to be a living wage. When I was in high school it was what you made working bagging groceries and working fast food as a teen.

I worked on a team of mostly millennials and they were reliable and worked hard. Yeah it's difficult to hire people these days....but there are people of all ages out there willing to dig in and work hard every day.

I think the issue is that people now won't work because somebody says "I boss, you worker, you do what I say all day long for $12/hr". People want to believe their work matters. If you have a cause that people can rally behind and you give them a piece of the action they'll work darn near as hard as the leader.

Oh the boss is a slacking ******* and the job is ****ty with no avenues for growth, no benefits, and poor pay? I think we've found a potential explanation!
