Default Often no way to contact seller in classified, suggestions?

More often than not, when I see an item in the classified section that is of interest many times there is no number listed and no way of contacting the seller, such as at least being able to clink on a reply type link. Some times I will see a phone number.
Surely there is a reply option that I must be overlooking, any suggestions would be very very much appreciated. I understand and appreciate folks may not want to receive a phone call, but I cannot (or have not figured out} how to reply back to the seller. thank you

What? You think someone posting something for sale should be required to list a contact number? So do the rest of us! Craigslist doesn't even let you post an ad without contact information. TOTV needs a technology update. Either that or some common sense! It's not you!! It's the forum!

I for one don't want everyone, sometimes scam people, calling me or emailing me when I have an ad posted. The way to contact a person that has posted an ad on this website, is to send them a "private message". The instructions on this website, will tell you how to send a private message to that person. It is very simple and private. I have received so many scam emails and phone calls, that I prefer to communicate by "private message". The same is true with Craigslist...I would never put that information (phone/email address) on craigslist. You simple hit the reply to message on Craigslist, otherwise, you will get a lots of scam messages.

Totally agree. If they want to sell an item they should post an email address. They could set up an email account just for classified ads, not hard to do.

If the item is also in the "old style" classifieds listings then you can reply to the post, saying you are interested and giving them your contact details.

I like to "private message" but not everyone has that turned on, or bothers to reply

I agree with this as long as the seller actually checks or knows how to use the PM function. You would be over the top surprised at the number of TOTV users who do not respond to PMs if they have something for sale. I list my phone number of here quite often and don't have any telemarketers calling me. I don't own a landline...

I think you are right! And why do residents have to make things more difficult than they really are? We have enough rules here in The Villages!!!

I have posted items for sale and have always put my phone number in the body of the ad.
I have NEVER received a strange phone call that wasn't related to the item, and NEVER have I ever received a call that was of a scam type variety.
Why is the TOTV classified section any different that an ad in The Sun? You put your phone number in their ad.

If you have an ad in and are single, simply have someone be with you when someone comes to see the item.

Stop making a mountain out of a mole hill. It's really quite simply folks. Put your phone number in the damn ad!

We've had the same experience.

While the classified section may not be perfect (as I have noted for us in a separate post), we have had success both buying and selling items using it.

If I'm interested in a sale item, I contact the seller by using the Private Message function.
If I don't hear back, I assume the item has sold.

This may sound ridiculous, but there are a number of people who don't know how to use the Private Message function.

Going a step further, there are also people who either never realize they have a private message or simply just don't check them.

That's why I previously mentioned about putting a phone number in the body of an ad. I guess the bottom line is there isn't any one answer that will appeal to the masses and make everyone happy. Oh, well . . .
