Default Lets Try to control Contractor Speeding

I believe that alot of us here in The Villages are getting tired of Contractors speeding through our community. I respect the Sheriffs department efforts to control the issue but I believe that we can do more here on this thread. If we use this thread to report and Not Support the contractors that drive reckless through our community it may " Hit them where it hurts" in the pocketbook and they may get the message to Respect Our Community. Lets Post ,review and consider before hiring. Thank you.

I think this should also apply to villagers in autos that tailgate, run stop signs, hit other cars in parking lots (mine hit by silver kia in publix - believe me I will find the owner- just got the damage estimate). It's not all one sided (contractors). Just watch golf carts cutting into traffic without stopping at intersections. I'm now taking pix of those idiots and intend to keep a file of same. So let's not blame contractors for all the traffic issues and clean up our own house (villagers) first.

There I feel better........

sorry, sanibel17, without video or other fool-proof evidence of alleged speeding by a contractor [or anyone] i think you open yourself and the ownership of this communication venue to a legal liability that i am sure no one really wants. perhaps you would benefit the community more if you just contacted the sheriff and provided them with a daily or weekly report of the speeding incidents you observed. you might even want to throw in careless driving incidents, too.

There's a lot of speeding around! Contractors and Villagers in cars and golf carts. I would like to see a concerted effort by law enforcement to stopiy. They could fill their coffers every day! Why aren't they more involved in giving tickets??

Default Welcome to our speedway

The contractors speed a lot throughout our neighborhood (Sanibel). One would have hit me head on if I hadn't hung back at a stop sign. He came around a corner at a good speed and would have run right into me if I'd been up closer to the stop sign. These contractors are the ones that are building the new homes. Pinnellas (sorry if I spelled it wrong) is becoming a speedway for trucks and contractors with the new construction going on out that way. I sure wish someone would police these roads to ensure everyone's safety.

hhman/happinow - have you reported the problems with speeding to the sheriff's office or just here so far? if they don't know, they can/won't do anything about it. and if they don't respond to complaints about the lack of speed enforcement - then it might be time for a letter to the editor - of more than the daily sun - the leesburg commercial is close enough for some bad press besides the local version of the orlando sentinal!

Default Buenna Vista

I was riding my bike on BV Blvd today where they have the electronic speed sign up. The speed limit is 35mph most trucks that I saw were 45+ and this is just about every morning. You right it's all over and it's not just the contractors.

Dear South of 466a Villagers:

Be afraid...be very afraid. The contractor vehicles (towing trailers) will speed through your neighborhoods. They will run through stop signs. They will pass your golf carts on the right and blow you off the road. They will cross the center line into oncoming traffic, while “passing” golf carts, and force vehicular traffic coming from the opposite direction into the golf cart lanes. Be afraid, be very afraid.

Sincerely,

A Tamarind Grove Resident who has (so far) survived.

This is a problem in older areas as well as those under construction. Contractors, including lawn care companies, seem to always be in a hurry. It's a good thing we're mostly retired, can take our time, and drive defensively!

I have called a couple of the companies that have their crews speeding around The Villages and told them what truck number or license plate was speeding where and at what time. The usual response from their office is something like, "Sorry for that, we will talk with them." I know it did not do any good but made me feel a bit better, though.

As for the Sheriff's office doing more ticketing for speeders, any time that the Sheriff begins a ticketing spree for a few days for both Villagers and contractors, such an uproar takes place against the Sheriff's office for "just wanting to take in the cash cow of us Villagers."

I know there is a lot of speeding but just do not do it yourself and watch out for the other guys.
