Pelham Parkway, The Bronx
It seems that alot of people here meet people that they new from their childhood or graduated from the same high school. I have not been that successful as yet. I would like to know if anyone lived in the Pelham Parkway area of The Bronx and graduated Christopher Columbus High School. It would be great to meet someone and talk about the old neighborhood.

Re: Pelham Parkway, The Bronx
close but no cigar. Parkchester for me and only when I was little -- St. Helena and PS 103.
And now back to work. I'm falling into bad habits again with this addiction!!

I live in Columbus Ohio but do educational consulting nationally. I was just in Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx a couple weeks ago. It is a small world!

Re: Pelham Parkway, The Bronx
Hi, Evander Childs here. Cousins went to Columbus HS, though. I'm like Linder, came from Parkchester/Zerega Ave. but happy to talk about old days, even though I bet I'm older than both of you!

Re: Pelham Parkway, The Bronx
Hi Floridagal, I lived north of Pelham Parkway in various places (Olinville, Wallace, Barnes...) and taught at Evander Childs in the '60s, but I myself graduated from William Howard Taft. I knew a number of people who went to or taught at Christopher Columbus, though. What year did you graduate, and can you remember any of your teachers?
Hey, KathieI, watch it when it comes to age!... Hope to see you when we get back to TV; will you still be there on June 20? Regards from HB! |

Re: Pelham Parkway, The Bronx
Had family that lived in Parkchester. Personally, I loved two blocks off the Grand Concourse at 2200 Morris Avenue between 181st and 182nd streets. Went to St. Simon Stock. Lots of friends went to Evander, Roosevelt, DeWitt Clinton, etc. Had many friends who went to parochial school like I did. I have many fond memories of the Bronx. Even ran for state assembly when Nixon ran for his second term of President. Lost to a fellow named Bob Abrams who later became Attorney General.
Left New York in 1971. When did you leave????

Re: Pelham Parkway, The Bronx
Floridagal, born and raised in da Bronx (as Kathie would say). Went to Evander HS and PS 78. Friends in Clinton and Card. Hayes. Lived on Bouck Ave 212th street between GunHill Road and Eastchester Road. Went to Orchard Beach many time which I think is around Pelham and had cousins on City Island. I've talked with Kathie and Sidney L. who actually met my public school principal. Small world. I guess there must be a Bronx club in TV or it sounds like we can start our own!

Re: Pelham Parkway, The Bronx
Johnny, you didn't say what year your graduated Evander? I know, you're younger than meeee, that's okay, I won't feel bad :verymad: :verymad:
Yes, love to have a bronx club if they don't already have one. Don't forget, we have Jim (of ByeNJ fame), not sure that Linda comes from the bronx, but we'll let her attend anyway. Let's do it. Kathie (duh! Bronx)

Re: Pelham Parkway, The Bronx
There IS a Bronx Club; I've attended a couple of meetings of it. There seem to be relatively few public school grads there. Maybe the Bronx Club needs an infusion of TOTV folk!!!
ConeyIsBabe: I lived down the street from the Highbridge Housing Project, if I remember right. Isn't that the one on University Avenue close to the Washington Bridge that crossed to 181st Street in Manhattan? I lived on Nelson off Featherbed Lane, went to PS 104, then Macombs JHS, and finally Taft, graduating in '58. Actually moved back to upper Manhattan during my senior year when the family home was demolished for the construction of the Bronx's largest parking lot, otherwise known as the Cross Bronx Expressway. Floridagal: If I do remember right, the three streets you mentioned run north/south. Starting at White Plains Road going east, it's Cruger, Holland, Wallace, Barnes, Matthews, Bronxwood, and so forth. I lived on Barnes north of Astor and later on Wallace north of Arnow. One of my closest friends, with whom I taught at Evander, was a neighbor around the corner--and he's now a neighbor two houses away from us at TV! It is indeed a small world!!! |
