That is EXACTLY what I thought too.

Ok well, first I am seeing things from a different perspective as I am a resident and also a small business owner. It is very hard to keep a business open here due to the high cost of rent that the developer charges and the high cost of advertising since they control every piece of the Media. I love it here also. I think it is a great place. I think the developer has done a great job. All I would like it to have a small piece of competition in the advertising media. As it is, they crush anyone that tries. I just like having another advertising option. The bottom line is phone books are a thing of the past anyway. Now we will have two big thick books to put under our computer monitors. Interestingly, this very site is a nice media alternative and I do appreciate it.

Default Second phone book

I understand there is a second phone book being delivered, which is separate from the official The Villages phone book. This one is shrink-wrapped, and so far has not been delivered to everyone. Supposedly this phone book has listings by home town.

Two different neighbors have received one, and they closed after we did. Does anyone know how we can get one?

Thanks,
Gail

The new shrink-wrapped one showed up in our driveway today. Now we have a stack of phone books 8" high!

For those of you that don't want all those phone books, please go online and opt out of delivery. You will still get your Villages phone book. This just eliminates those 8 other phonebooks that you never use.

https://www.yellowpagesoptout.com/zipcode/32162

It takes a few minutes to create an account but is well worth saving all those trees.
When you are going thru the steps it seems like you are signing up to get all the books until the end...then there is the buttom to opt out.

We got a second phone book the other day which was shrink wrapped and has a lovely crane on the front. I threw it out because it does not have us listed and in the look up by street section it does not have our street listed. It doesn't seem to have the new Sanibel residents in it so it is of no use to us.

If you are looking for exposure for business listings and advertising in print media, the "yellow" pages is not the place to spend your money. Digital is the only way to go. Don't fight it. Exploit it.

Neither phone book has us listed, and we've been here since January. Go figure...

We received our second book shrink wrapped and all, but it had our former address in it and not our new one in Sanibel. The "official" Villages book is correct.

Default "Is Disagreement Disloyaty?"

Well I see upon reviewing this thread that The Villages Politically Correct squad is at the top of their game. I subscribed to the old adage that " disagreement is not disloyalty". However we have this PC squad that believes it is their moral obligation , in fact an imperative to come to the aid each and every time they believe a member on this blog takes the name of "The Villages' in vain.

For instance the member that cited the tendency of The Villages to maintain a monoply is spot on. For those of us who have lived here a while that fact becomes obvious and if you are so inclined will find many merchants in and around TV complaining about this fact. Sumter One is a prime example.

I suspect that if this PC squad lived in America in 1775 they would have screamed at American for being traditors and wanting the Declaration of independence. Long live King George! Geeezzzzz
