Late bloomer, I can only guess that these young people are in dire need of cash so they’re picking through garbage looking for things to resell. This is just my guess. It’s based in part on the facts but our governor has refused to issue supplemental unemployment payments and is allowing evictions.

In my past experience in corrections my first thought was I hope people have schreaded their important documents. Just think if all the identifying information in the trash! Anyone wanting to do identify theft could have almost anything. But that is just the way my mind works

Aluminum is highly recyclable. Might be great if we could get together have people save soda cans. Take them to a scrap place and use the money for some charitable purpose.

You are not supposed to get political. In any case as far as evictions I do not own any rental property. Frankly I would never want to evict anyone. However it is a chain reaction. If, the rent is not paid, AND YOU CANNOT EVICT DELINQUENT TENANTS, the property owner cannot pay his/her bills either. Even if the tenants intended to pay the rent, as they fall farther and farther behind, the loss for the owner grows and what is owed becomes impossible to pay. Right now due to handouts there is actually plenty of unemployed and yet plenty of unfilled jobs. Young people. In high school, since I couldn't find a job, I started and ran a lawn mowing business. It was hard WORK, As far as trash picking. I taught myself to repair lawnmowers. Several of my mowers came from the trash.

Ex-northerner I used to pick up bags of leaves that people would rake together and put in bags. Great for composting. There was so much of it being tossed that I insisted on only taking leaves that people put into quality bags that they bought to throw away leaves.

We do that as well. We put it out, and 9 times out of 10, it is picked up before the trash guys come.

Definitely more prevalent where we lived in the country outside of Houston.

Just make sure you are cross-cutting all of your mail. Criminals will often times go through trash bags looking for personal information, credit card offers, SSN, etc.

It was just so bizarre watching this happen this morning in front of my eyes. not something I had seen before. I just happened to be at my desk, looking out the window
I had an old chest freezer that worked but needed work to get it to 100%. Put it by the curb and a guy in a pickup asked me if he could have it. He wanted to fix it and clean it up for his daughter. No problem, I even helped him lift it into his truck.
It made him happy, me happy, and hopefully his daughter was happy.

What you say is true (in theory) but I would be (and am) 100000x more concerned of my personal data on the internet then how some some papers in the garbage are shredded. If they wish to spend 2 hours reconstructing my junk mail, so be it. Virtually nothing is on paper anymore that I wouldn't be saving forever..

Everyone should check out this website: | Have I been pwnd

Even some banks use it because I got a secure message from CITI saying they found my emails/passwords on that site.

And for those concerned about that site just Google: is "have I been pwnd" legit. It is.

Showing results for is have i been pwnd a legit site
Search instead for is have i been pwnd a legit site

Is “Have I Been Pwned?” legit? Yes, it is. ... HIBP has been assisting governments, such as the UK, Australia, and Romania (to name a few), in monitoring for breaches in government domains.May 19, 2021

And there are hundreds of other comments backing that up.

IMO There no good in goodwill. It business to make millions, good for the CEO. They arrest people in need.

really? Well the couple looked neither dirty nor hungry and drove up in a decent, white pickup truck, not a beater. they were maybe mid-30s and healthy looking.

I'm not sure "need" as much as "greed" is the driving factor here. and no, I'm not going to blame the State govt for not continuing additional unemployment for people when jobs are plentiful as a reason for driveway piracy, sorry. its people making money. while on the one hand I'm glad people can get use of some stuff instead of dropping it into a landfill, but on the other, it's kinda creepy to have these driveway pirates picking through my stuff on my property - which is according to the law, illegal. I just never witnessed it directly until Monday. I was quite stunning to observe

Don't think it is the governor's fault, even though you would like to blame him. This has been going on for years.
