We used Pods to move from North Carolina to The Villages last May and was extremely pleased with the price and convenience.

We used PODS last year. We were very happy with the process. Do a search, there have been previous posts on this topic with a lot of responses.

try this link..we used PODS and were happy with the arrangement but you do need to be careful making sure you have room in TV especially if you are having more than one POD delivered.

Move via POD?

We are using PODS to move to the TV. Actually it is being picked up to go to Florida tomorrow. Nice people. Answers all questions when you call them. Gives a 3hr window for delivery and pickup and sends an e-mail to confirm this. Delivery guy was very pleasant and professional.

I was told by our RE agent in TV you only need to notify community warch you are having a POD delivered to you Village home. I'd didn't think price was bad either.

You don't actually need to notify Community Watch. I didn't, and there was no problem. The POD company actually know the local rules and will tell you if you can or can't store a POD. The POD fit in my driveway. on both ends of the move, so no problems. I would agree with the post above about fitting the POD (or PODS). We fit into 1, but if you are using multiple PODS you would need to get them delivered 1 at a time unless you have space on the drive to fit them at the same time.

A few questions:
How far in advance do you need to schedule (for POD & for moving help)?
What extra supplies do you need to purchase?
How much will fit in 1 POD?

During the peak summer months if you plan accordingly you will not be disappointed in getting the dates you want. For the POD delivery, I would think 4 weeks in advance would be great but you could do it with 2 weeks notice. Your charge card is billed in increments with the first charge occuring when it is first delivered to your house.

AS far as packing especially during peak season, I would schedule using http://www.emove.com as far in advance as you can..no penalty for canceling..especially if their is a company you really want to use. Most companies on this site have a customer rating based on price and service and as you can imagine, the higher rated companies will be most used. This is the good thing about using PODS ..you have some flexibility in scheduling your POD delivery to coincie when your unloaders are avaible.

Http://www.pods.com has some good information on how to prepare for your move. I would specualte that most people move to TV in one POD (although we used 2..and had a 3rd POD on standby in case we needed it...believe me we didnt need 3 and probably could have gotten away with one). Unless you have new stuff you can always buy it here and have something new. WE moved form a 4 bedroom 2800 SF house.....BUT we got rid of ALOT of stuff in preparing for the move. YOu neighbors wil think you are a "NUT" if you have 3 PODS delivered and if you do I guarantee your garage floor will be covered with boxes.

BEST advice in preparing to move...get rid of anything you have not used in the last 6-12 months, you will use 1/2 the clothes you used up north and probably need to buy more summer light weigth clothes for use in Florida. Mens suits/sport jackets...used my Tux and sport jacket for a cruise so once in the past 12 months..never touched a suit. Just remeber storage is at a premium in most TV homes and what goes above the garage cannot be fragile due to the heat and huimidity. By that I mean most paper products will wilt, Candles and soap products will most likely melt or get disfigured. The garage is good for Xmas items. You also most likely have no Coat closet in your home..although we did need light weight coats this past winter for more days than we expected..by this it is wind breakers, warm-ups NOT heavy overcoats or ski jackets.

Also as far as packing use standard size packing boxes as much as you can..you can get them at Sams and other places as well as packing bubble wrap. MUCH cheaper to do your own packing as much as you can..and emove movers will help you with the tough stuff like big pictures, TVs, lamps. GO to your local U-haul rental place adn they have speciality boxes and packing paper that you can buy. ALSO If you are USING PODS...go to UHAUL and you can RENT moving pads for your furniture pieces at a very reasonable price...I rented 60 for 2 PODS and good investment! ALso you will go through more packing tape than you estimated...by alot! Probably packingsupplies was a bigger expense for us than we expected but we packed 90% ourselves and packed good..ie wrapped individual glasses, placed cardbaord in front of large glass pieces such as on a china etc!

Agree with 784caroline.

We put our POD on the driveway in NY about 60 days ahead of time and really took our time packing. We had already purchased a condo up north, so we were deciding if stuff went to the condo, the kids, the POD or the garbage. Amazing how little of the stuff went to the kids.
Our TV house was furnished for rentals, so we actually moved very little furniture. Mostly boxes and assorted items we wanted in TV.
We managed to fit it all in one POD.
We used Arthur martin to unload in TV. They were great.
