Sounds like her husband was taking care of her, and now that he's gone and she's shunning any offer of support from the rest of her relatives... who's to do what? What can be done for her? We have so little resources left for people with mental problems. Or is this even a mental problem, if it's caused by a stroke? Would any psycotherapy-type interventions even help her if her behavior is caused by brain damage due to a stroke? There's probably more to the story, but i feel for this woman. She's probably falling through cracks in the system.

As far as safety and TV goes, I feel this is a safe place overall. There are isolated incidents, but I compare this to my MI town of 80,000, and TV wins hands-down in the crime-free department. Take care and be diligent. We each bear some responsibility for our own safety.

It is not evidence, however, of The Villages becoming a drug infested community, and we do not need to live in a police state with enforced inspections.

It is simply The Villages having a small amount of the general ills of our current society.
skyc6, thanks, that is probably the answer. I forgot about the legal guardian issue. Our church up north had to become legal guardian of a woman with problems whose father died and left her with no one. Lots of problems with her living habits, mental capacities, etc. She was not pleased, but this was the answer.

Some folks may say that clearing the air with correct information is gossipping... I disagree. People just love to make up their own stories when they don't have actual facts... NOW THAT'S GOSSIPPING! Everyone has taken great pains not to identify this woman who is deluded (and sometimes clouded by poor judgement). We need to be kinder NOT accusational!

I thought your explanation as to what happened helpful in making folks more compassionate toward the woman who allowed these people to live with her.

It points out another thing to worry about as we age.

And you are so right about people making things up and soon the story isn't even close to the truth.

Excellent post.

May I add that only those people with upfront close and personal experience with a loved one with Alzheimers or senile dementia can truly understand the very long journey from when they first became aware of the problem to how it all ends.............in the early stages simple vagueness or even in worst case scenarios, beliggerance, are common.

Each individual is different. For those who do not see their elderly or younger loved ones on a regular basis, they may be in the dark about a person's decline mentally.........and their inability to make proper decisions.

Placid individuals personalities can change to beliggerance in a heartbeat.
Personality changes are common.

It must be very scary for the one going through the dementia or early Alzheimers.........truly scary. Great patience is required.

If totally living alone as other loved ones die off, they may begin to trust anyone and make poor decisions along the way. Often these early onset alzheimers folks or senile dementia folks can be taken advantage of.
It's a fact. Sad but true.

Loved ones who don't enter "into their world very often" are shocked to see that they live in a chaotic world....largely due to forgetfulness.

So, whenever you see a beliggerant person "acting out" in public....you might wonder if they are in the early stages of senile dementia.

In the poor woman's case (with the meth being made in her attic above the garage) she put her trust in the wrong folks...........for sure.

She put her trust in the man upstairs, instead of the MAN upstairs. Did my sentence confuse anybody?

Check out this article posted on CNN:

My home was a former meth lab - Feb. 12, 2013

Also check the map attached to the article. It appear that there are a lot of "labs" in Central Florida. Must be a lot of Chemical Engineers in the area!

Default Danger danger danger

I really wasn't too worried about meth labs in TV until I read this story about someone building a meth lab inside a porta-potty on a GOLF COURSE. We could be inundated with them. How many golf course are there? Of course the good thing for you guys down there, it was next door to us in Oklahoma.

Never dawned on me the road rage I've experienced in The Villages may be due to early alzheimers. Puts things in a new light.

I believe the map at the sales office is of a higher quality but you can't beat free.

BTW - I bought the sales map.
