How about a ban on the posts that complain about a newly established poltical thread? And a de facto ban on those who would complain about them to the Administration.

Don't open it if you don't like political threads. Don't have to go into the kitchen if it's too hot, you know.

Basic civility rules could still govern all posters.

You could be on to something here, onslowe! Let's strive to make TOTV as bland and happy as the daily fun newspaper that's sold and subscribed to in the Villages.

For Those that say "just don't open the thread", I say many if not most are not apparently political by reading the title. Once you get into them you may see something that calls for a response, even though you might not have entered it had you been fully aware of the subject. I am playing devils advocate here BTW. That is why an opt in political forum would keep these things off the general board and only expose them to those who want to be involved.

You might be able to guess the person to which the Daily Sun was lampooning. It wasn't the the person or party that upset me, but the fact that readers were being subjected to huge political cartoons on a daily basis.
The phrase I highlighted red in the quote above is a good example of the point others and I have been trying to make in favor of everyone's freedom of speech being preserved, not squelched.

The commenter seems to think readers should not be "subjected to" "huge" political cartoons daily. To me, it means the commenter thinks he/she should be able to dictate what we should be able to see, read and think about in the newspaper. To me, that is CENSORSHIP.

If the publisher wants to print cartoons that criticize the reader's partisan opposition, that's the publisher's choice (and right, so far). If the consumer wants to fork over their money to buy and read that newspaper, it is the consumer's choice.

Beyond that, it's nobody else's damn business what partisan slant the paper prints, and it's nobody else's damn business what the consumer voluntarily buys and reads.

If it does become the business of a few to dictate that a publisher/editor cannot publish criticism of the opposing partisan group or leader, we are in big, big trouble in this country! This is censorship, the key component of a communist regime. I guess that's what some people want, but that is tyranny, and tyranny is what our forefathers fought and died to "protect us" from!!!

What I and other freedom-loving people want us "protected from" is the tyranny of censorship and state-controlled media, by respecting publishers' rights to publish the opinions they want to publish, and by respecting readers' rights to buy and read what they WANT to!

I think the snide comment above means "Middles Ages" (unenlightened) school of thought, not "middle aged" age group of people in their 40s, 50s and 60s.

And if the commenter is stereotyping and labeling 80% of our TV population as Middle Ages thinkers, that is bigotry and prejudice--not "enlightened", "tolerant" thinking, and such bigotry is all too common amongst those who call themselves "open-minded, accepting and tolerant".

Where I come from buying a corvette would be a mid-life crisis sort of thing. Second childhood is when you make your golf cart look like a Corvette.

How do you know what 80% of people here in TV think?? Have you personally debated all of them, to know that they rely only on faith, taught and cultivated by the Roman church, and not on human reason and intellect????? Knowing all that first-hand would be a feat, indeed!

How do you know that they "live in the Middle Ages"?? Have you lived next to peasant-serfs forced to work for a manor lord that owns all the homes and land, prohibiting the neighbors from owning their own property or enterprise????? I know some here hate the developer for being wealthy and owning lots of land, but as far as I know, everybody here owns their own home and property that they bought with money they earned by freely choosing to work and earn money, not by being serfs/slaves of a mean old rich (capitalist) business developer/owner!!

In Twitter you need to make a statement in 140 words or less. Maybe we could do that too. At least we wouldn't be reading so much.

Please share with us what you mean by "middle ages thoughts".

I thought it was a typo and you meant middle agers.

You only posted 21 times,

I read your other posts. Anyone can.

I am 51 and half Mexican..... I was diverse before diversity was fashionable. I have a grandson who is a mix of my sons mixed up heritage and another mix of Laotian and tai.
My experience has been that people who worry about diversity are more racist than straight, white Christians and the only ones who really care about race. For the most part, straight white Christian men don't care about your race, they care who you are. Sorry, you hit my hot button. We should stop, worrying about race altogether. Worrying about race is what got us into our current messed up situation in Washington. Maybe we should worry about human beings.

It's my understanding that discussions of a political nature are no longer allowed on TOTV.
Before my time in TV......we have forums for everything else....why not a political forum. It definitely would not be boring!

It seems to me that those who don't want political discussion are those who don't want their minds and opinions to change based on new information--and especially facts--being presented. They seem to fear finding themselves in agreement with their partisan opponents on even the tiniest point made. The bubble could be burst, and I guess that is scary!!

"Christian men don't care about your race, they care who you are." That's how I feel.
Do you think TOTV is a diverse group?

Now why doesn't that same logic follow regarding a political discussion. If one does not like politics then, like the dark alley....just simply do not go there.

As stated many, many times....such a simple and GUARANTEED solution....100% effective![emoji14]ray:
Actually I meant stand back and watch the show.
