So some of you may remember when I posted a question regarding the rules about someone playing their music aloud for all to hear in our rec pool settings, because I couldn't find an actual rule about it online. Well... Many said the rule is: NO PERSONAL MUSIC is to be played in public pools, other than what can sometimes be pumped out in the pools' own sound system. One response actually asked me if I only cowardly ask questions on TOTV or ever confront people. This wasn't even worth a reply since I clearly originally stated I didn't know what the protocols were. But today, equipped with the rules, I decided to ask the person at Southside pool in the historic district if he could turn down the volume on his system (playing X-Mas music). Here is what happened. He said sure, and turns it down, then guy in pool starts yelling "hey why are you turning the music down"? Guy explains about my request than guy in pool goes nuts, saying it's X-mas time and am I a visitor, and Pffffff about the rules. So yea, just like I figured, selfish A..holes will always want to have their way. I wish I had asked him "what would Jesus think right now" but knew better. No, there's no attendant at that pool to complain to, and no I can't build my own pool. But maybe from now on, it'll be suntanning in my driveway, if i can find a lounge chair!

The rec center manager is the person to complain to. The manager routinely visits the pools and is supposed to enforce the rules. But, some rec centers have several pools within their area of control as well as the rec center building. The pool adjacent to the rec center would most likely be better controlled because that is where the manager's office is located. The manager's supervisor also has an office in the rec center.

sorry for your experience - both at the pool and here on ToTV. Bottom line - you have witnessed the a-holes at both places. Some people have no feelings for others. Some people were not taught the Golden Rule. Some people are just plain ignorant. Some people just will not understand nor listen to common sense. And some people are just a-holes. Even on a nice site as ToTV - some people are know-it-alls and simply cannot hold back and make stupid offensive responses. I hope that you don't consider me any of this.... Merry Christmas LaLa,

We have a lot of public pools in The Villages. I would just find another one. In all of the years that I/we went to the public ones around here, including the one that was right in back of us in Hadley, and the one in Tall Trees we used up until we built our own, not one person ever played music. The pool behind us in our first home in Hadley had a lot of noisy children sometimes, but since I am a retired Pre-school Teacher that was sort of music to my ears.

All pools in The Villages are open to all people in The Villages. The Priority Pools are the exceptions but there are dozens and dozens of the free to us pools here. It is a little enjoyable ride in a golf cart to most of us to find another pool that doesn't have the annoyance.

I'm fortunate to not 'need' to swim at this point in my life, so it's really about finding a lounge chair, but thank you for your helpful note, and all the best to you and yours for the holiday season.

The pools are only going to get shall we say less peaceful from now until April or May. Before buying down here we rented in Sunset Pointe for a few winters and they always had music playing and loud conversation. I kind of enjoyed seeing everyone having a good time wishing we could be here full time. Thousands of different personalities down here so we just learn to live with them. If you would read back some of the disgusting things that happen in and around the pools you will realize that loud music is trivial in comparison and you most likely would not want to go back to any of the pools.

I agree that it is nice to see people having a good time. I just don’t like it when they give me a bad time by making me listen to their lousy choice of music by the pool.

That's what she was trying to do, but found it difficult with loud music in a place where it is supposedly not allowed to be played.

So she tried to rectify it, by making a request. The person who had the music turned up, turned it down. All would have (and should have) been perfect at that point.

But then, someone who doesn't want HER to take a chill pill or enjoy the journey, chose to make things difficult on purpose.

Perhaps it wouldn't bother you if I had a blow-horn in front of your house, facing your house, while you were trying to eat dinner, and sang off-key Frank Sinatra songs with the wrong words, just because I can.

But it would probably bother other people. So I try to sing on key, for them. The guy in the pool who made a fuss about the music was wrong. He can be wrong in his own home. He is not entitled to be wrong about personal music at the pools.

If anyone wants to listen to music at a public place, earbuds or headphones would be the courteous way to go.

Of course you could blare your favorite band, Tool, next time to get your point across. There’s probably only 2 of us in TV that actually like them, it’s sure to succeed.
