Default Pool maintenance in winter

We have a 35' X 16' pool that we will not be much using in the winter (Dec. to March), despite its solar heater.

Do we have to maintain the weekly pool service, or is it OK to have it done just twice a month? After all, no one goes into the pool and the temperature is cold.

T&D Pool told us that either we keep the weekly service, or they will drop us as clients.

We moved here from the Caribbean and are not yet used to cold weather related issues.

I would keep the weekly service. Keeps it clean, no algae build up and always ready to use. I use mine often in the winter. Not as much as summer, but as much as possible. However I keep the temperature around 85 degrees. Using the solar and gas to supplement and a cover when not in use, not very expensive to maintain 85 degrees.
