Default Power Company Dispute

We have decided to put in a pool in our back yard. Turns out our home's electrical service line to our garage runs diagonally through our back yard instead of going around the yard, keeping in the right-of-way. SECO says they will move it only if I pay for the redesign and construction. I have been on a merry-go-round with Sumter Co., SECO, the CDD and other agencies trying to find out what the building code says about where the power line should have been placed. Apparently no one has any standard that I can find. Has anyone had a similar experience with moving their electrical service line in their back yard? Did you pay for it or did the power company?

About 3-4 years ago, my neighbor had this same problem. My neighbor paid for it.

When we "stretched" our garage 4' wider 2 years ago all the utilities had to be moved out 4 feet. It was a major job. Took 2 men half a day. Had to have their engineer out, big equipment, new cable, new ground, new post new meter but we did have to pay SECO ...... around $150 dollars!

I work for an energy company and to relocate gas service lines or meters we charge by the foot.

Charge them a monthly access fee for installing their lines on your property not within the utility right of way
