Talking

Telephone companies from which I retired after 35+ years and power companies know almost instantly when an area of service is interrupted. Monitoring equipment reports almost instantly to a maintenance center where the alarms are monitored and technicians are dispatched.

There is no need to call as far as letting them know unless you are then only home without power. Even then if you have a smart meter they will know already but you might get a faster dispatch to your home if you call.

Imagine a power or telephone company having to sit and wait on customer calls to realize they have a problem and then trying to piece together what was happening. It would be a circus and would take forever..

However old habits are very hard to break and if makes one feel better they are certainly free to call and should..

I thought this to be the case, but you confirmed it. I appreciate the education.

There is a website to report an outage. When I reported it they showed no outages in Sumter County. I have neighbors on medical support. I want to make sure they know. We have a supportive neighborhood
