Default Frozen ice maker line problem?

On a Whirlpool side by side refrigerator - where exactly can the ice maker line freeze up and folks suggested using a hair dryer to unclogg it?

Is it in the back of the refrigerator or inside the ice maker tray and how does one open that compartment?

If anyone knows please advise. Thanks

It comes in from the back side of the unit. Pull the refrigerator away from the wall. You'll see the water line going up the back, use the hairdryer on the line where it goes into the unit. USE CAUTION DO NOT melt the hose. Hold it a little ways away from the unit. That's the way I've done it a few times. Usually happens when you haven't been using ice for awhile.

There may be an issue with the heater that is part of the ice maker.

If you search Google with make and model number, you will get lots of info. After trying several of these with limited success, it turned out to be the motor drive mechanism in the ice cube maker. We used Beck's Appliance repair, he is excellent. This mechanical failure is a common problem, so far the replacement unit has been working well.

Default Ice maker freeze

An easier way that worked for us-- unplug the refrigerator for about 2 hours. That's enough time to let the line unthaw.

it does seem to be a common problem. We called Rick Beck who took care of the problem plus he installed a heat tape something or other on the water line near the dispenser and said we shouldn't ever have that problem again.

If it's the drinking water out the front that is freezing up, you need a new plunger to close the flap that seals off the ice dispenser. Get parts on Amazon. See Utube for directions. I have had no problem since replacing it.

Mine used to freeze up about every 4 months, I had a Whirlpool side by side with the ice maker on the inside of the freezer door. Here's what I did and it solved my problem all the time. First, remove the ice bin and turn the ice maker off. Next, unscrew the casing to the ice maker and remove. Now, on a step stool, look into the compartment from the top. You will see there is a part that looks like it has teeth. Under those teeth, there was a shallow tray with water that would freeze. I took hot water and put it in that tray with a baster, to add a little bit at a time and then when the ice melted, I would remove all the water with the baster. Put every thing back together and I was good to go. Sometimes I would have to do this twice but in all, it took me about 15 minutes, tart to finish. Always worked. Good luck!

Vlad, before you spend a dime, turn the freezer temp control down to around 50%. You'll have water again very soon.
