There were a lot of outages during hurricane season last year. Our friends in Orange Blossom were without power for a day and a half.

Get a generator if you have medical needs.

So in Eastport area it seems like 1k + homes lost power again really quickly (30 mins after rain started) last night.

So that's twice in 3 months and the real rainy season hasn't even kicked off yet.

Just unlucky timing?

I certainly feel for those who lose power, especially for any loss more than an hour or so. Very disruptive.

We moved from a heavily wooded community in Michigan where we AVERAGED power outages 5-6 times per year from several hours to several days at a time. This was due to above ground wiring and dead trees (ash borer mostly) that homeowners negligently would not cut down, as well as slow response time from the utility. Had to have our home wired for a portable back up generator just to manage living there.

Since moving to the Villages three years ago, not one power loss. Don't miss moving a heavy gen, keeping it filled with gas, and listening to it run along with those of all my former neighbors.

Our average Michigan power loss was 47-63 days per year, sometimes 8-10 days dead of winter, from ice storms bringing down trees and power lines.
Squirrels were the issues two days ago for a power loss of 6 1/2 hours.
Have to chuckle at complaining 2 hour power loss once or twice a year.

Very unusual for the Villages but given they install hundreds of miles of power distribution, defective installation or material is bound to occur occasionally.

Hopefully they resolve it soon.

Some have no outages, some have more. It depends on how far you are from the main substation, how many lines, branches, and substations your power goes through. The farther you are from the main, the more failure points you have.

Plus, things down by Eastport are still being built out. Some things aren't as robust as they will be when construction is complete.
