That's because the parent included the child on the account.

Our bank up north will let you endorse it under your wife’s endorsement. But in that case they know both of us.

Some banks now require a check to be deposited for several days before you can withdraw it.

I got debit card but ONLY use in case of emergency, so far that hasn’t happened. I would NEVER give my debit card to waiter or let them walk out of site with it.

Just love how they get you to give them you’re money, then hold you hostage.

We don't want or own debit cards for many reasons.

Even though I had my ID along, the head of the household and had my checking account at the same bank.

Our bank requires us to write it to cash if we want cash.

The teller was wrong. I have worked in banks for over 30 years. A check payable to cash is a bearer instrument meaning anyone that has the check in their hand can negotiate that check. It’s no different than leaving the payee blank. Anyone can cash that check too.

I hate to inform you but Head of the Household is on its way out. Makes it sound like you’re wife stays home barefoot and pregnant.

You need to get over the Debit card fears and get one but know how to protect it. For maximum safety, only use it at your own Bank's ATM, and be sure no one has attached a stick-on skimmer to the outside each time. With this approach, you'll likely never have any issues. I used a Debit card exclusively for all purchases for many years with no issues. Then, it got frauded out 3x in one year. I got a new Debit card and started only using it at my Bank's ATM. ALL other purchases go on American Express and paid for each month in full. American Express security is far more advanced that all these other bank cards. I have never had American Express card frauded out on me. I'll stick with this plan until I have any issues again. The added benefit is American Express gives me cashback which I use to apply to paying off statements in full from time to time. Now, that does not happen with Debit Cards or Cash!

Shouldn't the teller use discretion? Maybe the teller didn't feel comfortable cashing the check and decided to err on the safe side. We don't even know the amount of the check or the account balance.
