Found this snake in our front yard. Could it be a pygmy rattlesnake? My dog was sniffing it.

Looks more like a corn snake or a rat snake to me.

Looks like a dead corn snake. I believe the pygmy rattle snake are shorter and have a wider head, body, and tail.

The head is not shaped like a rattlesnake head and no sign of a rattle on the tail. Corn snake or pine snake. Both harmless to you or your dog but very effective against rodents.

I have eaten rattlesnake and it wasn't bad. Of course, I didn't know what the delicacy was when Uncle Bill served it up and then told us a bit later.

I am not an expert on snakes but I believe, like another post, the one you picture is not a pigmy Rattlesnake.

Common corn snake. Pygmy rattlers (I've been bit on the thumb by one, before) are smaller and have a distinctly triangular head, as do all members of the viper family.

Do we have rattlesnakes here (Pygmy or otherwise?) What other poisonous snakes do we have here in TV? I have not yet seen any snakes but when I do, especially if they are in or near my house, trust me, you will all hear me scream.

Yes, there are Pigmy Rattlesnakes in and near The Villages. I was playing on a course just south of Leesburg when a golfer in the foursome in front of us was bitten by a Pigmy Rattler. It was quite a commotion. He made the mistake of reaching for a golf ball in an area where it was obviously the snakes turf. After spending the night (very sick) in the hospital he was okay. I do not know what other species of snakes live in this area.

Snakes move on when they see you but do protect what they consider their turf.

There are no POISONOUS snakes in The Villages. There are VENOMOUS snakes in The Villages.

A poison has to be eaten in order for it to be harmful. A venom is injected (such as through a snake fang).

There are rattlesnakes (both the Pygmy and the Eastern Diamondback), water moccasins, and coral snakes in The Villages. The coral snake has a neurotoxin (similar to a cobra venom). The others are hemotoxins which attack the blood system.

I had to learn this information from my time volunteering at the National Zoo in Washington DC.

Very possible that the heavy rain will bring snakes out of their flooded habitat and onto drier ground. Watch out in corners of your garages.

Yes. I ran over one on El Diablo course with my golf cart. Messed up his day.
