Default renting in TV

Has anyone rented a place through the web site, Villages homes 4 rent .com.? If you did, how did it go? Right now we are looking to rent for a month this oct. We think a month would be ok for us, as we are looking to buy a spec home. Thanks

I posted a request here for a rental. Got a lot of responses. Most referenced their posting on the 4 rent site. Now the problem was to know if the person actually owned the property. I could see how active the person was on this board and get an idea from his posts if he was real. Also checked the county records to see who was the owner of the property. Everything went very well. Also sent deposit check to his home in the Villages which I verified with the county records. Of course he could be in another part of the country but that would add a little doubt unless the postings indicated that he had two homes. One problem can be how do you get the key. The landlord used a key box on the door. Thus I could arrive anytime. Landlord also offered to meet me at the home if I had any questions. I would use the 4 rent site.

I advertise our rental homes on that site and have very good success. We rent our homes about 10 months of the year using the site plus other ways of marketing.

Tommy, I had a cancellation about two weeks ago for the month of October so this home is available.

We are currently staying in a great courtyard villa that we rented for two months at villages4rent.com. Everything has gone great, and we couldn't be happier with the website or the owner. He not only helped us in every way possible, he also took us on a two hour golf cart tour of several areas in The Villages to help us get our bearings. Nice house and a nice owner. We definitely would use the site again.

As I've said a number of times, the renter does not have real security dealing with thevillages4rent because that website only lists properties owners take care of themselves. What renters need to ask is: 1) Is the place really clean, nice and as advertised?" 2) "Who is there to meet us and handle any questions or problems." 3) "What recourse do I have with an owner who makes unkept promises, including just taking my money?" With an individual owner, especially one not physically present, bad things can happen from the moment of arrival.

Other websites like vacationrentals.com list homes where, if owners are absent for periods of time, many have LICENSED property managers. This protects the renter and gives them legal recourse with that manager's business if there is a problem.

I must have been lucky -- I rented 3 times since last year through thevillages4rent.com. All houses were beautifully furnished and clean. All owners were on site and could handle any problems/questions that arose. And my security deposits were promptly refunded each time. Just my experience.

Great! And I agree that after seven years here, TV folks are terrific. So, the likelihood that a new renter will have good luck is higher here than a lot of other places. I just think renters should ask a lot of questions before sending private parties their money. I do not believe the 4rent website offers any recourse to unsatisfied renters, nor do they carefully monitor what owners advertise. For example, after looking at 4rent properties recently I found three claiming they had swimming pools, while the owners were referring to the community pools down the road.

you will find that most owners that use thevillages4rent, had a lic prop manager.....and that is why most owners have started using thevillages4rent, there are some good property managment companies and some not so good we just happened to pick two really not so good, the renters who ever they were did get their deposit right away...our home however was never checked and the sliding glass door was left open, house never cleaned, dirt covered floors bathrooms and food left rotting in the fridge and the counter.. the golf cart out of gas..and the battery dead..(lights left on) that is only the half of it... we returned three weeks after the renters left ..it was heartbreaking, our home was only two months old..
