question taking 301 to 24 to 75 to TV
Rather than taking 301 south from 95/A1a all the way to The Villages I was looking at the possibility of taking highway 24 at Waldo over to 75 and then down to wildwood and over to 466A.
Looks like about 20 miles from Waldo to 75 but going through Gainesville. Is that correct? Is that a bad route to take? Any problems that I should be aware of before taking that route or is it still the best to stay right on 301. Leaving soon Doug |

We took that route several times and it is OK. However, there are some lights and traffic in the Gainesville area that can slow you down a little. Someone here recommended staying on 301 until just above Ocala (I can't remember the actual highway number) and then cut over to catch 75. This is nice since most of the 301 part is divided highway and the cutoff to get to 75 is very short (a mile or 2) and it avoids the bad part of 301 - the part from Ocala and south.

What's bad about 301 from Ocala and south to TV?
I thought the speed traps on 301 were north of Gainesville. .

A lot of traffic lights and traffic. I have done it more than once
and would opt to go the long way and get to 75 further North. It will be longer but possibly faster. Even if it is a toss up, I would elect for the lessor traffic.
I found it kind of neat the first few times to get a look at "old" Florida. But I am done with that now. btk |

Obviously, if your destination is the north part of TV it probably makes sense to just continue on 301. However, if you are going to any of the southern areas, I think it makes sense to hop over to 75. |
