Now before I begin let me say no one loves the villages more than my husband and I. We have lived here 7 go 8 yrs now and belong to more clubs than you can imagine. We attend many events (see my previous post on Lake Miona). We love our life here and our many wonderful friends. I'm throwing this out so people can start to become more observant to their surroundings in the rec centers. Also note, we normally dance when in the clubs more than play cards etc
LA hacienda is always a Hot rec center in large room for a big event. This year's baby boomers Halloween party with most dressed in costumes was unbearable for dancing. When I asked rec center employee to lower ac they said they are not allowed. Really?? With a crowd this size and dressed and dancing. This center runs Hot most of the time. Now I know people will say some run cold and yes they are also right. Laurel manor can be cool. But better cool as we can bring sweaters etc. (Especially in Fla with the humidity). One other center I have noticed a problem for yrs as I'm in this one once a week also. Saddlebrook. In the winter for some reason the ladies room has No heat and No hot water. This has been ongoing for yrs. OK once again , don't attack someone who loves it here. Just putting out to see if others noticed any temperature problems in our rec centers. And again keep in mind we dance all the time and the AC is extremely important when you live in a not humid state Off to watch the military softball competition. Go Marines!! |

I always have a problem that rec rooms are too hot but that's my internal thermometer, not an issue of the rec rooms. If there are enough of us that are too warm, we get someone working the red center to lower the thermostat. Has never been a problem, at least at Colony, Lake Miona or Laurel Manor. I know when we has our sectional bridge tournament at Hacienda, we had no problem getting staff to lower the temperature. Not sure why they wouldn't lower them for you.

Excellent post and I think it's mean and territorial when the o.p. gets attacked for stating a legitimate complaint.
Before the Boss steps in to scold the o.p. for not reporting what management said, this is a complaint held by many, many people I am sure. I'm also sure that Rec Dept. employees were there in number to hear the complaints from attendees. I read a similar thread last night about a dressy ball at Lake Miona Rec Center and many people left because it was so hot in there and their $90 was wasted. Sending one email with the complaint is far less effective than thousands being able to read, agree and acknowledge the same, here. Too often, complaints are treated as "you're the only one who appears to have a problem with this". With the number of instances where people have suffered this complaint and it continues, I think it needs to be broadcast here. |

I love the sports pools, but:
Two years ago I informed the Rec Dept that the floor in the men's shower at Lake Miona had sunk and the water wasn't draining away. I heard nothing back so, after a year, I reminded them of the situation. They wrote back that they had inspected it and it wasn't a problem. Well, standing around in someone else's rinsings is not the nicest thing to do health-wise, then trailing loads of water across the hallway into the changing room creates a safety issue for those not so sure on their feet, so I consider it a problem, which is still extant. And I do wish they would notice that Florida receives a lot of sunlight. Many people are putting in solar tubes because they provide a lot of interior light without heat - perfect for the changing rooms - and most people with pools use solar water heating to keep them swimmable during the winter months. Add in the huge square footage of south-facing roof for photo-voltaic cells to power the heaters for the shower water and the electricity usage at a sports pool could be slashed. While retro-fitting all of this might be prohibitively expensive, that doesn't explain why new pools aren't built that way. As the OP said, things are generally very good here but people (especially those in authority) should not be afraid of change, or closed to suggestions from the people who actually use the facilities. |

I don't understand. The other thread on this subject on THIS forum was written by this OP. The ninety dollars lost in a hot and unusable room really smarts. But I have usually felt the need for a winter coat in most rooms in rec centers when they close the doors.

It was not until later in his post that he/she mentioned a similar thread. The attack was mentioned very early on.

In my former life the squeaky wheel always got action. Keep bugging the district office.

I don't have the slightest idea what the point being made is??? I didn't say anything about a non-existent attack on this thread.

Many complaints are valid and some are just silly. When people complain they can kill a decent business. Many times complaints come from employees that have been fired or by competitors who aren't doing as well as the business that they are trashing. Any anonymous person can say anything including calling people Nazi's. That is very strong language. But that is not the issue on the thread about the temperature. Is the air conditioner shot? Is there a poorly functioning air conditioner in one of the rec centers that hasn't been reported and not been fixed quickly? Is this an isolated instance or is this a terrible thing happening all over and we should list our homes to move? Me and Charlie Brown. We say. Good Grief. I am still anguishing about Hulahoops ninety bucks. Gosh. That is awful.
