Default Real Journalism in Daily Sun

I have not seen any thread and it deserves notice and praise. Our hometown paper has produced a real piece of independent journalism in the front page of Sunday's issue "Redefining Justice" It is well written, has clear and useful graphics to enhance the article and speaks to an important issue. Presently this link will allow you to read the story, but it is unlikely that the link is long term

Florida's death penalty differences draws attention

Again, kudos to Katie Sartoris who is bylined as the author and Associate Managing Editor for this investigative effort.

It was interesting that this subject took up most of Section A. Likewise, the reporting that appeared in The Daily Sun a few weeks ago about the centenarians who are living in our community. It's good to see in-depth reporting being added to the paper.

Just so they don't get to be like the "real journalism" that they have in most newspapers- biased, slanted, misquotes of people they don't like, quoting people as experts who are not, hit pieces. I can read "real journalism" in a lot of newspapers that I would not line a birdcage with.
Now if you are talking about old time life magazine type stuff - bring it on.

I kept that article as worth putting in my files. It is very thought provoking work.

Those interested in this topic should reference Thomas Mott Osborne/aka Tom Brown. Osborne was born in 1859 in Auburn New York. In 1913, he spent a week in the Auburn State Prison under the name of Tom Brown to assess prison life and then wrote about it and revolutionized/reformed American prisons.......

He was quite a celeb in his day. This same prison was the first in the country to use the electric chair (once) but executions were moved to Sing Sing

I find most of the articles self serving to the needs of the developer. Why do we celebrate the fact that TV is the largest, fastest growing community in the universe when the infrastructure can't support what we had 3 years ago much less today? We need stores, restaurants, gas stations, etc. This is a runaway train, and the main benefactors are the Morse Family.

Most seemed to like the article's. But, then again some never miss a chance to bash the Developer...................

They were referring to the Sunday paper about the death penalty.

They have had good articles in the past as well. Usually with a senior slant of some kind.

I have a friend who goes to Starke to protest against the death penalty whenever there is an execution set. She is around 86!!!

She also had two death row pen pals but tries not to tell one about the other one. She does not want to know what they did but just treat them as someone who needs some human connection. She did give me the name of one and he turned out to be someone who murdered his neighbors while on a crack high in the Miami area.

I do not believe she reads TOTV so this should be OK for me to post here.

Walking with my friend, I do not go into my 224 613 Project to help survivors/victims get access to the best practical information possible but this kind of an article is something that I would hope that they would want to look at as it covers a wide range of information about the death penalty in Florida. A. I'm aware of the original article was about the death penalty
B. I was referring to the observation that they are not "slanted" when in fact they are 100% slanted toward the developer's agenda regardless of right or wrong. That's fine since the developer owns the paper, but let's not breathe the ether.
C. Blitzkrieg? good grief--whatever. Double Down!
D. You ain't SEEN developer bashing until the word gets out that Publix at Colony was put on notice that if the employees don't park in the spots NOT reserved but designated by the developer, they will be towed. There are going to be NO exclusive employee spots, and the spots they "designate" are unknown to the public. Customers can and will park there anytime they wish. Guess what? It's snowbird season and employees have to park where they can, or not show up for work. How can they possibly monitor who's parking where without a full time rent-a-cop? How also, can they justify towing people when "the developer" refused Publix' overture to rent the vacant lot that is currently undeveloped for overflow parking. Stay tuned. If you want to see ugly, watch for cars being towed at Colony by Kling Towing. You KNOW that there will be customers towed too. Ask the employees at Publix next time shopping at Colony what they think. Blitzkrieg? Ron.

A. I apologize, I thought you were confused about which day was being discussed as there were a couple of "We're Number 1" stories in the Sun last week and you had not quoted the post you have now referenced.

B. If anyone thinks the paper doesn't operate with a developer slant they are crazy.

C. Sounds like you, or someone close to you works at the Colony Publix. You might draw better attention to this issue if you start a new thread instead of burying it in one about the death penalty.

D. I should start writing more posts as lists. It's fun! Thanks for the inspiration.

I have not noticed any employee only parking spaces in any of the Villages' area Publixes and cannot recall seeing any of these at the Palm Harbor, East Lake, Tarpon Springs, etc. Publixes I have been in since 1996.
