Great FRESH Florida Seafood!

I had hope for blue fin. But it is owned by the country club group in which all the good tastes EXACTLY alike. So I don’t hold out much hope that BlueFin will do real fresh Florida seafood.
I know there is a market for it here. Just look st Bonefish.

Hope I’m wrong about BlueFin, but judging by their track record, I’m not holding out much luck.

It’s Florida, people. We shouldn’t have to go to a chain (Bonefish) for a great seafood dinner, but they are the only ones in town.
I’d love to see a real Florifa establishment go into Guy’s. Time will tell!

A new restaurant must be unique as to not compete with existing restaurants in or near the share- no burger joint to complete with Johnny Rockets,no Italian to compete with Red Sauce,--this is a Villages policy

graciegirl 09-10-2018 07:18 AM

I love the title of this thread. REALISTICALLY, What restaurants? There are many posts about highly individual wants for Restaurants in The Villages, here is a list of those that are in The Villages. Restaurants survive or fail not because they live up to the criteria of gourmets and experts but because their fare AND price is suited to the demographics of the paying public who frequent them. Here are the ones that are now surviving.

Surveys are only as good as the people participating--according to the above survey Johnny Rockets is the best restaurant in TV--no categories, no price ranges

worthless comparison

LOL. The list is not in order of best to worst. If you actually read the reviews you get information about what people liked and didn't like about these places. It's helpful to someone new looking for a place to eat. Not worthless at all.

Laker14 09-10-2018 11:38 AM

Interesting question. Was it a Johnny Garlic's that shut down, or one of Fiero's other ventures?

A nearby change to eateries is coming, I read in the Sun a few days ago that in the Old Mill Playhouse outer lobby they will be converting the never used snack bar into a taco stand that is accessible to everyone. I can't remember the name, but it will be something like "Taco Shack".

Haagen daz, Starbucks, and Brooklyn bagels, count as a restaurant

Chatbrat 09-10-2018 04:30 PM

Only in TV's--a bagel joint counts as a restaurant

Actually a lot of that is going on. Some folks enjoy going to a Bagel place. Some of my good food memories involved beer "joints" in Columbus Ohio. Mock turtle soup, Chili soup, Fish sandwiches, Big juicy bratwurst on a nice hard roll.

It doesn't have to be expensive or fancy to be enjoyable.

Chatbrat 09-10-2018 04:54 PM

But is not a restaurant--its a cafeteria--its a fast food joint !!

Ecuadog 09-10-2018 05:45 PM

They make a nice bagel.

As already mentioned, there's Harry's in Ocala, and there's another one in Altamonte Springs, Brandon, and Winter Park called Tibby's New Orleans Kitchen. We've been to the one in Altamonte Springs that's on Rt 436, and enjoyed it very much. Good food, and a fun and funky interior. Maybe they could be convinced.

It’s a tiny space, most restaurant footprints will not fit. Besides hope all you want, who ever agrees on the $$$, signs on the dotted line, is who the developer will put in that space.

Realistically, the current choices are singularly underwhelming, just plain blah. Wouldn't it be enjoyable to have an excellent Florida seafood establishment such as Joe's Stone Crab at LSL? Home page Joe's Stone Crab

It wouldn't live long. That genre can survive in a much, much larger population with two people working. We are not poor here, but many are careful. AND many eat out every day of the week. Nancy Lopez was considered expensive by many.

Sad to say, I must agree with you. However I dearly love fresh pompano, stone crab claws, true key lime pie and other Florida delicacies.

Well, today is National TV dinner day, no doubt an occasion to celebrate for some folks...NATIONAL TV DINNER DAY - September 10 - National Day Calendar

Laker14 09-11-2018 09:11 AM

A question for the group: Do you think the type of restaurant that might thrive in a location in or near one of the squares would be fundamentally different from what might do well in or along the commercial areas slightly outside of TV?

From what's being written, I get the impression that the size of facility available is an issue, as well as the spending habits and tastes of the general population of TV for an enterprise that might cost more than the current flavors. As TV expands, with what seem to be "fancier" (for lack of a better word) and more expensive homes, I'd think there would be enough folks with tastes, and money for more upscale (read: more expensive) options.

Maybe not a restaurant. How about a small gym for men similar to the Curves for women.

How about a museum/library about the Villages?

Not ever going to happen. Total waste of valuable retail space.

Legal would be great on that corner, would be full most nights.

Madelaine Amee 09-15-2018 08:58 AM

I'm getting away from making it another restaurant. Given some thought to what another poster said earlier and I cannot remember who it was .... a good, really good coffee shop would survive there. After all look at Panera's and Starbucks, people love sitting and watching the world go by while enjoying a good coffee and something to munch. They have outside seating, full plate glass windows where you can watch the world, and easy parking from Barnes and Noble.

My otherhalf and I will often go into town and just get a coffee and a muffin/something else and just sit and chat for a while before getting on with our life. When we go to SS we stop at First Watch and have a coffee and something, and when we are on our way to Sam's we stop at Brooklyn Bagel. The new establishment does not have to be a restaurant.

The one thing we never do is look at how much it costs! It's our together down time.

P.S. Since posting earlier this morning I think this location could be a good place for the younger generation. Turn it into a wine/liquor/coffee bar. Have musical entertainment - plenty of very talented musicians here - and stay open later. But, for any of this you have to have an owner/manager on site. Get to know your clientèle, be there to greet and meet, make people feel welcome and happy to be there. With the right management it could become the IN place for the younger Villagers moving here. Unfortunately, it takes money and time to establish something of this nature.

Taltarzac725 09-15-2018 11:19 AM

Put a Cattle Baron Club in that spot. Owned by the Villages and with musical acts and the like.

manaboutown 09-15-2018 12:23 PM

I was going to suggest this outfit but I see there is already one in Lady Lake. Homepage | Trulieve

Mattress Discount

Madelaine Amee 09-15-2018 07:16 PM

Someone with money could buy it and turn it into a Singles Club, members only. Would be a gold mine.

Moonrunner 09-17-2018 03:35 AM

Personally I would love to see a
German or Middle Eastern restaurant.

fastboat 09-17-2018 05:36 AM

Costco wouldn't put up with the ridiculous lease requirements anywhere in The Villages. Besides that space is nowhere near the size they'd need along with no adequate parking.

alncon2 09-17-2018 05:38 AM

There are so many options of eatery’s that would satisfy Villagers tastes.

Portillo’s
Pei Wei
PF Chang’s
Cheese Cake Factory
Smokey Bones
Alexander’s Steak House
Chugs Tex Mex

And the list goes on!

yesi3putt2 09-17-2018 05:52 AM

I'd like it to become Harry's Steak & Seafood(Ocala)...they put one on downtown Lakeland and it was full most of the time...

carolkowalski52 09-17-2018 06:06 AM

Applebee’s or Chili’s- they both do well in Lady Lake

Chatbrat 09-17-2018 06:24 AM

no more junk chain restaurants,PLEASE !!!!--there is an Applebees in SS, and a Chili's on 441--used to only hit these kind of restaurants when I was traveling and staying in a nearby motel--kept the chance of getting food poisoning down

SERENITY52 09-17-2018 06:26 AM

Extremely difficult to go against a very well established Cody's. That aside, it was despicable what Guy Fiari did to its employees.

Greg L 09-17-2018 06:32 AM

Maximize outdoor area. Put in operable windows. Great drink specials. Great early bird menu and small plate menu. Low carb menu for diabetics. Live music.
