Default Remodeling costs

Has anyone had single paned windows replaced with dual pane windows? Has anyone bought an older home and had it updated? I have found an older home that I like, but would like to update it if we should buy it. I have never had a whole house window redo, so have no idea what it might cost, and is there someone in TV area that would be recommended to do the work?

Driving around TV last week, every street and home we saw was spotless. I assume that all the areas are like that, including the older areas. Do people ever do major remodels on an older home? I have always liked to buy an older place and redo it.

Just kind of thinking while writing, but can anyone offer suggestions?

Thanks,
Pat

Can't address remodeling costs, but the lifestyle is indeed that every home, every street, every public area (around everything from rec centers to traffic circles) is spotless. And yes, whether new or newer or older or old areas in TV, everything is beautifully kept up. That is certainly part of the attraction of TV. Some may object to some of the deed restrictions, but they really do add to the appearance of a neighborhood and help maintain the value of homes!

We redid the all the windows in our California mountains summer home two years ago with dual panes. About 18 windows for $7000 out and in. Took two days. Four windows in second floor bedrooms dormers. The old windows were original from the 1910's.

Makes a huge difference in heating and cooling! And sound, but that wasn't an issue in our case.

I have remodeled several homes, from minor paint, carpets, and small things up to a complete gut and replace. Windows are on average around $300 to replace. More for larger ones and less for smaller ones. Tile costs you about $1.50 a sq ft to remove and $2 to $2.50 to install new. Plus cost of tile. To replace bath fixtures figure $200 for toilet, $100 for sink, $150 to $300 for faucets, tubs and showers can be lots more depending on size, what your doing, and how high end you want to go. So bathrooms go from 5K to 10K and you can spend 20K on a complete master bathroom remodel. Carpets for a good plush type with pad will run $30 a yard installed, decent granite $65 a sq ft, and always add another 10% for those things that come up. Cupboards and vanities can go cheap or a lot depending on your choices.

We have a custom built home in Cincinnati with good brand name double pane windows,I can't think of it right this moment but they frequently advertise on HGTV, it is a national brand....... but they are not as good as our new home in Hadley. On an extremely hot day you can put your hand on the window and not feel the scorching exterior heat. Also, the air conditioner cools much faster than our very adequate Trane here.

Check with the sales center and ask them what brand they are using in their new homes. They seem very accomadating to those kinds of questions.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Thanks for all of the replies! I had no idea what it would cost to replace a window and other improvements. Now I do.
