Chenault55, Member since 2012, still misinformed about pools. Adult, family, sports, and country club pools which require a priority membership. But no resident only pools.

Not to worry smitty2karen as there are lots and lots of friendly people in The Villages. Don’t let my post or any other scare you away or make a quick negative judgement of the residents of The Villages. There are approximately 135,000 people living either part-time or full time in The Villages. We come from every State and from all “walks of life”. That said most are retired and the vast majority are some of the most interesting, kind and considerate people you will find anywhere on the planet. Safe travels and enjoy your time in The Villages.

I also understand that renters can be an issue, however, that is not the case with me. I was an owner before I came here to test out area before purchasing, until the prices went so far up, that if I wanted to buy, I may no longer be able to afford to buy here. I am also home-bound due to illness so no parties, no noise and I maintain the property as if it were my own.

I hope I am wrong about this....
We rented for a year before buying a few years ago. We noticed the same treatment. However, when we bought in another village we found the few renters in the neighborhood were most welcome.

Default Renting

I found before I bought , it depended on the neighborhood I rented in. Some were really open and welcoming and others were just plain awful. You need to feel out the area you pick. Once I bought , I always make sure all feel welcome. A renter is treated no differently than an owner in my neighborhood. Keep searching and you will eventually find one you like

I went to the always welcoming orange blossom pool. not. I was asked by a resident, of all people, was I a priority person. I replied "I think so"
in 5 minutes the pool patrol was in my face, asking for my credentials. they walked away, embarrassed, and I just smiled. if I had a picture, it would be priceless.

don’t pay attention to this stuff , I don’t know anyone who cares about whether your a renter or live here and I’ve had 6 different homes here ,and with ID you’ll receive you are welcome in all the pools except some country club pools that you have to pay a little extra. I have rented out my homes for 3 months in winter most years I’ve been here , by the time I got back my renters had made more friends in my neighborhood then I had . Welcome to the villages

Default Good advice! Just one thing…

I have to say I enjoyed reading your post. Good life advice there! Thanks. Just one thing though: Covid isn’t keeping everyone home. Whenever I visit Brownwood Paddock, it’s packed!

We discuss one issue at a time and yet reality is never that way. With covid people do not get out as much. Home bound may have soured your views-that is normal.

"I may no longer be able to buy here." It is true that prices have gone up here but prices have gone up everywhere. You need to review your finances and decide what you can afford. Almost fortunately, I grew up POOR. To quote a friend, I was an overnight success. It only took me 45 years of hard work. Being happy is a choice. No matter what you have, others will have more. Enjoy what you have

Having said friendly chats are great. Have met some fascinating people here.
Friends is yet another book. Friends is another word so overused that it has lost all meaning. One of my FRIENDS told me his daughter has 2,000 friends on facebook.
My reply was and she knows who two of them are.

Wife and I have rented for over twenty years.
No problems.
Only missed last winter and this one because of Covid restrictions.

[QUOTE=retiredguy123;2043562]What is a resident only pool? I have never heard of any pools being restricted to residents only.[/

‘Sport Pools

Be sure to check the sport pool activity schedule before you go. Schedules are available in the Recreation News insert, on pool bulletin boards or by calling the center where the pool is located. Sport pools are designated for exercise programming.

All Villages sport pools are for residents only (age 30 and older).’

Not to worry. You'll meet plenty of nice people...

Auto correct often inserts what it wants. I always re-read my post before sending and nearly always have to correct things or reenter parts that were deleted. Occasionally it will make changes as I hit the submit button. I then have to edit my post, but I have had responses asking me what I mean before I can complete the edit. Because of my experience with this phenomenon, I rarely comment on another's use of incorrect spelling or choice of words, unless I find it funny.
