Default Replacement for Community Watch?

I can't wait!

I think Community Watch is one of the largest money pits in the District's Budget.

Unfortunately, change comes slowly to TV.

I agree why do we need gate attendants all they do is push a button to open the gate... also with all the talk now of the new stickers on your headlights to open a gate.. why not just use the same sensor system as when exiting .. pull up to the gate and have sensor just lift the gate automatically..

CW does more than open a gate. Driving past every home 3x/day on a random schedule is a deterrent to criminals. Helping to check IDs at pools helps keep outsiders from using the facilities that we pay for. Some of my neighbors have received the phone call that they left their garage door open late at night--- a sure invitation to those with ill intent. Even the gate attendants might spot a suspicious person or vehicle better than a camera. Yes, a lot of their presence is designed to give the illusion of a gated community, but what they actually do is worthwhile

I agree. Opening gates and 70+ year olds with no authority, driving around to scare away the roving bands of home invaders, is well worth the millions we spend for the illusion of a gated community.

Illusions aren't cheap.

But the question is whether this “illusion” is effective. What would happen once the word gets out that CW has been disbanded? And just how much, if any, would the amenity fee decrease

That is the question, whether fees will be reduced or not, my guess is no reduction so keep them going.

Agreed. But I also think that how Community Watch is constrained by the Powers-That-Be adds to the general frustration that people seem to have about them.

Case in point: Community Watch monitors and reports water usage in contravention of the current regulations on lawn watering. Well and good. But...when people have suggested to those same Powers-That-Be that Community Watch monitor and report the more egregious examples of rule infractions regarding property, they are told that it isn't the job of Community Watch to monitor and report such things!

My question is why not? Seems that reporting properties where rulebreaking regarding lawn watering is taking place, then reporting other property violations is not much if any different. If every home in TV is checked by Community Watch 3 x daily on their rounds, then they're obviously going to see that lawn that is ready for the baler rather than the mower, or lanai screens fluttering at half-mast, or the north side of some houses that are spotted with mold up to at least the halfway point, or that RV that has been parked on the street for over three weeks. I've seen all of that and a lot more, though thankfully not in the Village where I live. I'm not talking about the picayune stuff--a little white cross in a yard, for example, is really not worth getting one's undies in a bundle--but the major stuff if left unchecked can negatively affect property values, and certainly doesn't give a good impression to people thinking about moving here.

If you are referring to Deed Restriction violations then that is, in my opinion, a path they do not want to go down. The current resident complaint driven system provides some insulation against claims of selective enforcement; they enforce what is reported but don't actively look for violations. Actively monitoring Deed Restriction violations is something I suspect the CDDs have no interest in doing.

Yes, that's why we have drug houses and homes with uncut lawns and bushes. Tell me again what they do?

One example of uselessness...
I have reported to power company many street lights that either were not lit at night, or lit during daytime sunlight.
Having mentioned these problems to a few CW drivers, hoping they would notice them and report what they see during their drives, I was told "we don't do that".

There was a point in time when CW did report violations, didn’t work then.

Oh cool, Community Watch has returned to the front of the hate cycle.

I'll regurgitate my CW beef - here goes again:

The guy at the Shay gate needs to not be there, not be paid to be there. He could become the new roaming pool-ID-checker for all the pools in the Greater Spanish Springs area, from the Historic Side down to Chula Vista and up to that new pool on Morse near Hacienda.

The Shay gate isn't an actual gate. There's no gate there. Just a gate house. It's wide open. Anyone and everyone can come and go, without stopping at all, no button to press, nothing. And, the person inside just sits there, with the blinds half-closed, so you might not even notice that he's there at all. He sits there reading or watching videos on his tablet or whatever he does in there. And gets paid.

So that's my CW beef. Shut down that gate house completely. Leave the house there for decoration because it adds to the "illusion" of a secured community.

I'm working on an analysis of where Amenity Fees really get spent. I think people will be surprised. The money is not going where everyone seems to think it's going.

Being far less than a financial genius, it's taking longer than I anticipated to sort through it.
