Prefer an electric stove to gas. Anyone tried replacing theirs? Not sure if kitchen is wired, but wanted your thoughts. Thx

Look at your circuit breaker box in the garage, if you see breakers labeled STOVE it is probably wired, if not figure $400 or more to have the wiring, circuit breaker, and socket installed.

Look behind the gas stove? Do you see 220 volt outlet that looks like 220v dryer outlet? Too bad we didn’t hook up 4 years ago. I replaced elect with gas. We could of just swapped! LOL.

My previous home was set up for a gas or electric dryer. We chose electric. The wire was already roughed in behind the dryer but there was already a breaker in the box for it. All I had to do was wire in the 220 outlet and I was good to go. |

Thank you everyone, for the info! I do have a double breaker in the box that is marked "Stove" and it is turned off. Was a little leery pulling out the stove to check for a 220 outlet, because of the gas line, but will try that next. Thanks again

You should be able to pull the stove straight out without damaging the gas line. You may want to protect the floor, especially if it is sheet vinyl. When you push it back in, make sure you line up the anti-tilt plate on the wall with the slot in the back of the stove near the floor. You may also want to use an outlet tester to make sure the outlet is connected. I had a house in Virginia that had a 220 volt outlet that had never been wired.

Switching gas cooking for electric would be like trading a CD Player back to cassettes. To me, not having a gas range was a deal breaker when I was choosing a home but I suppose electric might be safer and easier to maintain if you plan to allow renters. |
