Default Resident Academy waiting list

There was a warning on the districtgov web site that you would be placed on a waiting list for the Resident Academy. It’s is now over 600 people or ten months out and counting. Hate to think about what the waiting time for pickleball may be this winter season. There are many great activates to choose from in the Villages and all are delightful. As the Villages continue to grow, everything needs to be upsized to accommodate larger numbers of participants. It seems that some are still same old same old in size.

It seems that there are pickleball courts added with each new addition, shuffle board, art rooms, meeting rooms, golf courses. I am not convinced there is a problem. All over the entire state of Florida there is a huge shift upward in population during January, February and March, just as there is here.

It is wonderful that so many people want to learn how this place works. I am sure that the people in charge will find a way to accommodate all of them.

Using pickleball as an example, for Monday through Friday only three rec centers had two hour play times published for advanced beginner pickleball play. We heeded more open courts as waiting times were greater than playing times last winter season. Allocate more playing times for advanced beginners as there will be even more players this coming winter season.

Another example was the CERT training a couple of weeks ago on emergency preparedness for tornadoes and hurricanes. Only two classes were given and both were full to capacity. Many more wanted to attend but could not.

Again, as the Villages grows their needs to be plans for larger groups and not this same old same old attitude. Think bigger in size as it will be needed!

Personally I'm glad to see how many people are interested in learning how the government of The Villages actually works. The orientation on Thursday mornings is a great take also and you can just walk into that. It's an abbreviated version of the Resident Academy but you'll come out of it with a much better understanding of the way things work around here.

I am not sure about Pickleball and scheduling things but I believe that some things need more classes etc..
like, CERT. However, keep in mind that much of what happens in The Villages is due to volunteer help / leaders.
Thus, a shortage ! It isn't all up to VCDD but to the residents .... When someone sees a need and volunteers to
head up a group ... it will happen

It is a bit surprising that a Tutorial Video (i.e., The Villages Government 101) describing the Basic Concepts of The Villages and its governing model is not posted online so owners and prospective owners can view it.

Think about it... Why wouldn't there be a Tutorial Video on "The Villages Government 101"???

The VHA meeting tonight at the Eisenhower Rec Center on Deed Compliance was so packed that they were thinking about moving to a larger room. I left to allow another a change to hear the program once as I had heard it last year. Again, everyone needs to think big and then bigger as TV continues to grow.

Maybe they should also make a video of this program.

Well. There is no current venue in TV that holds 130,000 plus residents. Even the Swamp in Gainesville won't hold that many people.
