Do they have any special perks with the Villages, since I'm a homeowner?
Thanks! |

You can get an in-area guest pass for your son and family valid for one year. This gives them access to rec centers, pools, etc. However, you will have to accompany them to anything they use. Hope this is the info you wanted.

If your adult child lives in your home in the Villages he has the same "perks" as any other Village resident. If he lives outside the Villages but in Sumter County he is welcome to use all the public areas, shop at our stores, eat at our restaurants, take a ride on Lake Sumter. He is not entitled to our rec centers and clubs and golf courses and pools. However, there is available an "In-area guest ID" for situations such as yours. I don't know the specifics and I can't find the on districtgov.org but it seems that this acts like an out of area guest ID but is good for one year. The in area guest must be accompanied by the Villager and there may be some facilities where it is not valid. That information is on page 4 of the weekly Rec News under guest guidelines. On the website there is circular advise suggesting that the details are available on the website or in the phone book. Can't find it.
If you call your local Regional Rec Center they should have the information. Sorry Red, I was typing while you were posting. Didn't mean to be repetitive. Last edited by blueash; 04-29-2012 at 03:26 PM. Reason: additional sentence |

I thought that the "in area guess pass" was for grandkids - not sons and daughters. I think that would be stretching the laws of TV.

Sorry, that's not what's stated in the policy. It doesn't affect me one way or the other but if I had close family in the area I'd be like for them to be welcome in my community.

Our daughter (48 years old) lives in Ocala with her fiance. SHE has in "in-area" Guest Pass, good for one year. Since they are not married HE can not get any pass. From what I recall, when I applied for her pass, it is good for sons and daughters and their spouses, and grandchildren.

Yep, an adult child living in Sumter County can have an In-Area Guest Card and it is valid for ONE year at a time. The only catch is that the Villages Resident who got them the card must be with them at whatever amenity covered function they are attending (e.g. must be at the pool with them or at the card game in the Rec. Center.).
"In- Area Guests, regardless of age, will be required to have the sponsoring resident in attendance with them at all times when using District amenity facilities. If the In-Area Guest(s) is not with the sponsoring resident they will be denied access to District amenity facilities." The In-Area guest card is only good for children of residents and grandchildren of residents. Parents or siblings are not included. For example, if a Villager had a parent living in Marion County, the parent could not come to one of the Villages swimming pools - even with their resident son or daughter. |

The In-Area Guest Passes are valid for any direct blood relative and their immediate family (or legally adopted family members). This means your parents, kids, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nephew, nieces, possibly cousins (but not sure on that one). My daughter and grandson have one so that they can access the family pools (although they rarely use it and definitely not as often as I would like). I do accompany them on their visits.

Are you sure about the "direct blood relative" thing? My husband's brother lives in Leesburg and we've been told he wasn't eligible for a guest pass.

But look at it this way...we would be much more crowded than we are if all relatives would decide to live nearby and be allowed our amenities. The line has to be drawn somewhere.
