Is there a right answer here?
Yes, nobody going to make you do anything you don’t want to do.

Absolutely return to designated area! I ran to stop a stray cart from hitting a car last week, the wind was really whipping. Its super lazy to not put the cart where it goes!

I've often wondered why the engineers that plan the parking lots don't put cart storages close to the handicapped spaces. From the social media comments (not just this one) people tend to be very judgmental without knowing what's going on. I'd say---you wouldn't want to walk in my shoes for a day, a week or a month. I get the remark, "but you "look" great!!" well don't judge from the outside.
i spoke to a publix mgr in person just now about the issue.
The mgr stated anyone who wants a cart at the handicapped spot has merely to call customer service and an employee will deliver one to their location.

Its would best for these village's to have something else to keep their mind focused that is a more important matter than shopping carts

We already have a preview of the next important subject. I'll reserve my response since personally it's a looong story.

I always return to cart return area or, if close, take back to the store. I usually pick up an errant cart left in the parking lot and take in with me. These behaviors just seem right … like holding door open for anyone, saying please and thank you … 😊

I agree. Had knee surgery a few years ago and really depended on that cart. Always happy when one was close by even though that was not the store’s intent. It was my ‘walker’.

If I am close to the store I return it by the door. If not I put it in the cart corral. If there are carts just left in the parking spot by me I put it in the corral. I too have seen carts blown around by the wind and no one wants to cone out of the store and see their car dented.

When one (actually 2 because the first one pushed the second one and they both went rolling) does $447.88 damage to your vehicle that has a $500 deductible you might think differently.

Was that time you speak of with a partner or alone? Just wondering.

I have already taken a cart from a parking space in the store with me.

This question was discussed in the Daily Sun on Tuesday, and just some food for thought.

Cheers!
The first time I shopped at Publix I was about to leave my cart next to my car. An elderly woman gave me the dirtiest of looks. I asked her if I offended her in some way and she proceeded to chastise me calling me a northerner and a snowbird (bless her heart). Well she got the northerner part correct but I am here year round. From that day on I have put my cart where it belongs.
