I'm with you on this one. Before my mobility issues, I would always return the cart. NOW though, if someone is walking towards the store I'll sometimes ask them if they need a cart and always I get some type of affirmative answer. I've often wondered why the engineers that plan the parking lots don't put cart storages close to the handicapped spaces. From the social media comments (not just this one) people tend to be very judgmental without knowing what's going on. I'd say---you wouldn't want to walk in my shoes for a day, a week or a month. I get the remark, "but you "look" great!!" Well don't judge from the outside.

Parking lot is rather small so short walk to return the cart no biggie to me.

When that happens, you won't be thanking all those "kind" people for leaving them in an empty parking space for you. They BELONG in the cart holder with the understanding that in some cases it isn't physically easyand there is little choice , but generally they are the exception. That's part of the reason PUBLIX offers to take your stuff out to your car and take the carriage away for you.

Publix pays people to help customers rolls their shopping carts/buggies/trollies/carriages (whatever you call them from whence you came) to their cars for a few reasons:

1. It prevents people from damaging the carts or leaving them in far places where they might get missed, which makes them easy targets for theft.

2. It prevents customers from damaging their own or other peoples vehicles, when they leave them outside the corrals for the wind (or customers who don't see/look in their mirrors) to move the carts.

3. It is a good customer service feature in general, something grocery clerks used to do back in the 1960's and 1970's but got phased out.

I try to park close to a cart corral, but not close enough where an errant cart could clip my car. If I can’t park close enough to one, I will return mine unless I’m having a bad day (physically). If that’s the case, I’ll push the cart in front of my car, making sure the wheels are turned so it doesn’t get blown around and end up hitting another car.
yes! some carts have a lock-type thing on one of the rear wheels to prevents the cart from traveling too far away, if it's bolstered against a light pole or handicap sign, it won't move

I’ve gotten dirty looks from people that see i’m in handicap parking and leave my cart, yet no one ever offers to return it for me!!!! This is a valid issue for those of us that can’t always comply. It just doesn’t make sense to have handicap spots near the store yet have the return area near the end of the row!
we all understand your predicament. Have no worries.
Thanks for bringing it up. I'll pay more attention to that and pass it along.

You might if people leave them IN the Handicapped Parking space and you couldn’t park. I use a mobility scooter and can’t move the cart unless I park out in the aisle, unload my scooter and move the cart and try to get back in the car to park and…well I think you get the picture. Please don’t leave them in the handicapped spaces.

In all seriousness there seems to be an issue re the handicap parking spaces.
One poster is glad theres a cart present to assist them into the store.
Another complains of the carts presence in or near the spot.
Is there a right answer here?

Only certain group, not everybody shopped there.

I’m surprised panhandlers haven’t been outside in parking lot with sign saying, I will return you’re cart for that quarter. Opps that involves work…..
