I would like to point out, respectfully, that this is NOT limited to "snowbirds". Seems a lot here is attributed to "snowbirds", cigar butts thrown on greens and leaving marks...must be the snowbirds, almost run over, must be a snowbird, items missing from yards...snowbirds again. No, we are full time residents, so I am not trying to "defend" "snowbirds". If you really think things through, how would a person who owns a home in Florida (here, or somewhere else) and a home in some other state, differ in morality, civility, and/or just human kindness, from any other person ? But sure seems like anything that happens is traced to...... scapegoats, ooops, I mean SNOWbirds !

Yes, what IS a "true villager" ? What is a "true" anything ? Tampa resident, Orlando resident, Kansas City resident... what makes any of these people "true residents" ? How many years must they live in a location ? Does the fact they own homes, pay all fees, taxes, and utilities, but do not stay in their homes 365 days per year, count towards them being "true" (or "real" residents) ? Of course there are tourists, people who visit ANY area in the world and stay in AB&B's, hotels, motels, and with friends. Seems a simple problem to solve, why not just ban all such tourism in The Villages. There are retirement communities who do not allow any kind of tourism, so if that's what "true villagers" want, just close all the hotels in the V's, forbid renting one's own property, and forbid U.S. citizens who live here from listing their homes on sights like AB&B.... Easy solution if that's what we all want ! Or, if only a few people want that, there are many retirement places where you can find such restrictions ! Don't have to look too far away either !

Sadly true ! This will be considered "whining" by some, but honestly, for some reason a higher percentage of people just seem to be exceptionally nasty, and sure seemed to increase even more during the virus period for some reason. America's friendliest hometown is still a very nice place in general, but it definitely is changing.

Default Golf Cart Road Rage

I continued on my journey to have the guy follow me for about two miles (roughly 9 minutes). Intimidating me? In Florida, that’s “Road Rage.”

Finally he passed, yelling something out the side of his golf cart (incomprehensible over the roar of his englne), but then after his one-finger salute out the back, I knew it was not an apology. Then noticed he was wearing headphones (another FL illegal).

This kind of behavior is way too common in The Villages, but this was the worst yet. Impatient golfers driving like maniacs way over the 20mph speed limit going to and from courses. Wreckless drunks seeing how close they can come to cyclists and walkers after happy hour at the clubs and music venues. Funny? not
(another FL law: minimum 3-feet of clearance between vehicle and cyclists and pedestrials - most states are 5)

I think in the least there should be identification on golf carts. Being anonymous brings out the worst in people with issues.
Most definitely need a license plate to identify golf cars/owners. Childish behavior!

Snowbirds aren’t the cause of all the problems in the Villages. Attitudes about them is.

Some ID on Golf carts? Maybe. Why not? Question is what would be the real benefit if there was no action taken for any infraction?

Drove out today…golf carts filled with breeders grandkids..some even driving. Go to DisneyWorld already!!!
Soinds like you moved to the wrong place.
It must be very frustrating to be so unhappy with your surroundings and see so many people who are enjoying themselves thoroughly.

Big sigh........

Yes, so let’s register every golf cart, while we are at it, let’s register every bike too (growing up, i thnk my borough did that - no idea why) -
charge $75 per golf cart every year.
Then, each golf cart needs to be inspected, another $125 a year.

For what, do you think the sherif will track down the guy who gave you the middle finger.
His defense will be “ I didn’t follow the guy onthe bike,I was going to XXXXXX (fill in the blank) and he happened to be on the route.“

You do realize that some of those snowbirds are our neighbors and friends, and by the way, the are HOMEOWNERS.

We are not necessarily snowbirds since we come down to our Villages home throughout the year as our schedules allow, but the winter months are always our longest stay.

Can you provide us with your address so we can take a dump on your home as we fly over while migrating north.
Well said (except for last sentence). I have no problems with snow birds. If you enjoy the lifestyle, great. Just leave whatever you are fleeing from back home. It does sound like the nut driving the golf cart may not have adopted the “Florida’s friendliest home town” attitude.

Most definitely. Right after we put license plates on all bicycles. I can't believe that someone actually posted that it is carts that blow through stop signs---they must be living in a parallel universe. For every Lance Armstrong wannabee with a go pro camera on their helmet looking for the slightest violation by others on the road, we could identify a hundred laws broken by cyclists.

I had a guy in a cart pass me on my bicycle right before the T-intersection of a tunnel in front of a blind curve near St Catherine. I yelled "What's the matter with you" so he stopped, got out of the cart and was going to punch me as I rode past. Then he chased me down the path, onto the road in St Catherine's, bounced over the curb around the cart barriers & continued to chase me on the walking/bike trail for a mile or so before giving up. I wish I could have gotten an ID on him.
