I'm all for more efficient enforcement. Can't catch everyone - but for instance today -

I was coming past the Boone Gate on Paradise on my way to the golf cart bridge from my end of the neighborhood. I was behind three other golf carts. The speed limit after the intersection is posted as 15mph. We were all going around 17-18mph. And the guy directly in front of me shifted over to the other side of the road and passed the other TWO golf carts - very obviously going well past 25mph.

If there had been a police car at the fire department, the postal parking lot, or the rec center parking lot, they could've pulled that guy over and given him a ticket for a few different violations.

But there is never a police car at these locations, unless they're called to handle an existing problem.
That is a perfect example of what I have been talking about. A 15 MPH speed limit is exactly correct for that area due to how busy it is and the difficult visual problem caused by large shade from large oak trees. People coming out of the Postal station are especially oblivious to good driving and safety.

You give out tickets and ANNOUNCE that you are doing that in the paper and on the radio. Then you put the offenders' pictures in the unofficial website. After about one month you TRIPLE THE FINE. If the Police and TV Land managers were serious about SAFETY they could EASILY modify the behavior or TV Land residents.

The only time someone is in a world of unpleasantness is if they get CAUGHT. That means someone must point out to law enforcement that something is wrong, and it requires law enforcement to - (wait for it) -

enforce the law.

They already have proven either unwilling or unable to do that with any amount of consistency. I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for that to change.

That's exactly what I thought when I read that person's post. If the average property taxes in the V's is the $3,200 it is said to be, and the average amenity fee is $170 ( average they say, that's not the highest of course), but even at that, can you imagine someone thinking nothing of paying FIVE TIMES THAT, FIVE TIMES the person said ! Seems like some of places around Orlando would be a better fit for someone having, and willing to spend, on something like not living in a community that allows renting. WOW is all I can say, FIVE times $3,200, FIVE time $170, as a famous politician once said, "pretty soon you'll be talking about REAL money" !

Agree, "will" is the key of course. The outrageous speeding that goes on day and night, no one travels 35 mph. If they really wanted that, it could be accomplished and even possibly make a LOT of money for the 3 different sheriff's departments (for a while, word would get "around", and even all the service, delivery, and lawn care owners WOULD instruct their drives they do not tolerate speeding and reckless driving (such as driving IN the golf cart lanes !) It's really no different than the roots of the deterioration of some of our most magnificent big cities... if there was a WILL to do so, they could be saved, safe, and have very effective schools. Same applies to a little place like The V's, if the WILL existed, it could be accomplished !

And this is news to you?

Criminals won't go to a gun store. They can't pass a background check because they're CRIMINALS!

Third time's the charm... EXACTLY!

Why didn't I think of that?... Oh, wait, I've said the exact same thing, multiple times...

I am still trying to figure out what that really is, it can go several different ways with 90% of them I'd get kicked off this thing for saying it. It almost sounds like this place is an exclusive club even though it's really not. Nor is it a retirement community since over half the population works, so it becomes difficult to define the difference between a person that lives in TV vs. a 'true' villager.

Is there an official sign up and certification? a badge or sticker that must be displayed? does it require a frontal lobotomy? do I need a medical exam to be one? So many questions so little time...... what is one to do???

This could stifle my life until I find out!

......There was an individual here on TOTV who BRAGGED that his golf cart was set up to do 45 MPH. That was within about the last 2 months.

Golf carts going 40 and 45 mph---I don't think so, at least I've never seen one go anywhere close to that. Once I thought one passed me going 30-32, just once in 9 years.

15 MPH speed limit ??????? What are you smoking and where do I get some????? If you can't handle a golf cart at 20 mph, get one of those lame tricycles and ride that, just stay out of everyone else's way. For safety???? Having an even bigger disparity of speed between different vehicles will make roads and MMPs LESS SAFE

Oh, yes, I forgot---more police, more tickets, more fines, more nanny state rules---no thank you.

Default Waivers on golf carts the problem

This kind of behavior is way too common in The Villages, but this was the worst yet. Impatient golfers driving like maniacs WAY OVER the 20mph speed limit going to and from courses. Wreckless drunks seeing how close they can come to cyclists and walkers after happy hour at the clubs and music venues. Funny? not
(another FL law: minimum 3-feet of clearance between vehicle and cyclists and pedestrials - in most states it is 5 feet)

I feel, in the least, there should be identification on golf carts. Being anonymous brings out the worst in people with issues.[/QUOTE]
The Villages Golf Carts increases the speed on the carts they sell. They have the owner sign a waiver (that they created to protect themselves). It does nothing to protect us law abiding cart drivers..What can be done about it?????

Sure, be happy to do so, AFTER they put identification on ALL bicycles and outfit ALL carts with go pro cameras so CYCLIST violations can be documented. I'm willing to bet the cyclists won't go for that./

Some rentals at the Villages Golf Cart shop don't go faster than 15mph. I remember when we rented, and people were beeping at us to go faster. We didn't really understand why, because the rentals don't have speedometers so we had no idea how fast or slow we were going; we'd never driven a golf cart before.

The 15mph speed limit is appropriate for the area he is referring to, which is in response to my post, where I specified. On one side of Paradise is the tennis court, the postal center, the parking lots for the bacci and shuffleboard courts, and the corner of a road where traffic coming from left and right don't have a stop sign.

On the other side of the road is the a sand trap at the executive golf course, the fire department, the rec center, their parking lots, a church, and the other corner of the road where traffic coming from left and right don't have a stop sign.

It is a VERY busy section of road, with one lane in each direction, no bicycle or mmp lane, and no sidewalks for pedestrians.

The rest of the area has a 25mph speed limit. But you're supposed to slow down in this singular 1.5-block section of road.

My guess is the rude golf cart rider is a snowbird who rents and brings his dog into Publix, allowing to put his but all over the carriage, THEN, and this is the worst part, he lets his dog pi$$ and $#1t over full time residents lawns. I bet ya.
