Whether or not this event happened, and I'm prone to believe it did, the point is that crime happens everywhere and we should all take normal precautions to avoid being a victim of it. My hubby loves to keep our garage door open because he's a busy guy, I love it closed. Up, down, up, down.

I realize in TV it is advised NOT to leave your garage doors up, but it's not the home owner who is truly at fault.......it is the thief. In my humble opinion anyway..........

My husband always leaves his garage doors open up here and I'm beginning to remind him that it's that time of year when the field mice like to sneak in.........especially since it was below freezing in the 30's this morning.

I hope this is an isolated incident as far as having to worrying about robbery within the garage.
you don't have to worry about it here in TV anymore than you do up there.....matter of fact even less here.

Crimes of opportunity do happen and it does not matter where in the world one is. A little common sense is the best prevention.....without even thinking too hard about it.

Isolated incidents get a lot of play in our society with credibility often ignored.

Robbery in Tall Trees

(TOOK NAME OF VICTIMS OUT) asked me to notify everyone about a robbery at their home on Welcome Way TODAY Monday 9/16 about 1pm. (Couple) were home at the time.
Husband had just washed the love-bugs off his car and had left the garage door open to allow his car to dry. One of the neighbors witnessed a car stopping at their house with a guy and three girls. One of the girls jumped out of the car ...ran into their garage and came out with a set of golf clubs. The neighbor yelled at the girl and the crooks took off. They notified the policed immediately and the police responded within 2 minutes but the thieves had already gotten away. They do have a description of the car and the girl. Best lesson
NEVER LEAVE YOUR GARAGE DOOR OPEN.
Still not a robbery. Robbery is a violent crime, this is a larceny, no need to make more out of this than it already is.

You are right to focus on this important aspect of the issue, as semantics are much more important than alerting fellow citizens to the consequences of non-vigilance, but I would characterize the crime as plundering. However, I do not rule out the possibility that it was a simple case of repossession.

It appears that a garage got robbered. A set of golf clubs WAS larcened. This happened because four perps, jerks, nasties, stole the damned things right out of the aforementioned garage in the broad daylight.

I know that if it takes the girls VILLAGES posse to get involved they will, and they will run these larceners to the ground and make them sorry they were ever born to robber, larcen, steal, take, or borrow.

I hate crooks, larceners, robbers, thieves, and pilferers too. I hate them almost as much as I dislike finding I have used the wrong word.

Not really, Robbery is No different is a violent crime. No different than saying someone was murdered, when they were punched in the face. Just trying to make sure people aren't associating a larceny with a violent criminal activity. Things on here sometimes grow out of proportion.

Sounds like us.

Actually, I also looked our town up on Sperling and we also rate a "4".
Same as The Villages.....with regard to crime.......1 to 10 with 10 being the worst. 4 was the national average for crime.

As I just posted, TV and our town rate the same "4" which is the national average. 1 to 10 with 10 being the worst as far as crime in a town.

Where we never had much crime at all years ago.......and people left their front doors open, their keys in the cars.........not so much nowadays.

Jewelry is being taken, whole safes carried out of homes......and so forth.
Usually when the home owners are away. Businesses are also being burglarized with items like computers and such being taken. Much of this is due to the fact that the thieves need money to support their drug habits and are usually youth in their 20's.

p.s. Copper is being stripped out of old buildings and sold for scrap metal value.
Our cops are "on the ball" and make no secret of the fact that it is a problem.
They talk freely in our daily newspaper about the problem.....often. Again, not a secret up here.
Again, drugs are the culprit........the thieves need money to support their habits.

Simple answer, as I have said before, like others, CLOSE GARAGE DOOR, especially at night. Day time hours reduce risk of theft, however, a closed garage door at all times reduces odds to practically zero! Like when you buy insurance, how much risk are you willing to accept.

I appreciate 57ChevyFI's attempt to get people to communicate clearly and accurately. Using the proper word is a good start. Indeed, robbery is not the same as larceny. If the garage door is open, should it still be called a "break in"?
In my experience, however, such efforts are basically unproductive.
These are casual posts here, not term papers. So typos, misspellings, improper grammar, logical errors, and so forth are common. Sometimes they make me laugh. Other times I'm appalled at how many people don't seem to know the difference between there, their, and they're.
But it is what it is. Life is short. Don't worry about it.

Default Crime in The Villages....

My husband has been going to court due to a man hitting him in the head at the gas station. He was coming to the aid of a lady who lives in The Villages... but that is another story.

He came home today telling me of a man who was put in jail for 27 months, $3,000 in fine plus restitution, for breaking into two homes in The Villages, while the people were home.

I never saw this mentioned in TOTV or in Sun Times. Hubby says if you want to know about the crime in The Villages, and there is plenty, go to court and where it's actually being tried.

We will be getting an alarm system!

Going to court to find out how the bad guys are being treated will be way down on my list of things to do in The Villages.
