Replying to the couple of questions raised in the last couple of posting. First: Villager07. We were also told to "wait" OC would contact us. They never did and we waited for an extended time never suspecting we were being mis led and part of the alleged terrible conduct of The Warranty Dept/OC. We waited and the roof finally leaked and then we became very active in finding out what was going on. We contacted a Contractor who said they needed a Claim number from OC to do anything. We got the claim number and some shingles were sent back to OC and presto we were told they were bad. Just as an aside, even during the wait to get approval for the labor OC delayed the response and appologized and we could wait no longer and paid the labor to have the shingles replaced. Second: Gomoho, as I am sure you can appreciate when we first decided to see if our shingles were OK we called The Warranty Dept never thinking we had a problem and went by their directions and word NOT TO CONTACT OC! After this phone call we waited and waited and this caused a pretty substantial laspe in time vis a vis the Warranty. Were we a victium of the conducts of the Warranty Dept and OC. Absolutely..

I have a designer home that the warranty dept stated had OC shingles - oakridge - I put in a claim with OC and they tell me they are not OC shingles but Certainteed! I call the warranty dept and not really helpful - finally got the name of the roofing company and they came out and said yes they are certainteed - they would contact the rep and see what can be done - in the meantime I put in a claim with Certainteed and the roofing company is trying to take the easy way out and won't follow the claim steps like sending in a sample etc.. There fore I NEED a recommendation on a roofing company! Not SPS!

We used Scott and they were good. They came out and inspected the shingles, sent them to Owen's Corning and installed the new ones. It is hard to find some honest people including the Warranty Dept of the Villages. Of course Owens Corning is a profit making business and will take whatever avenues open to avoid being fair if it means losing profit regardless of the ethics. What is terrible is The Warranty Dept of The Villages is touted as an arm of the residents and that is not true. They sat on knowledge of bad shingles and when asked by the POA to notify the Owner's they took the low road and adopted the attitude of "Let them find out for themselves". As a result a lot of Warranties ran out and the owner's lost their ability to recover some costs. How high this went within The Villages is not clear. We have accepted absoring the costs since you can't fix people who have no ethics! Understand The Warranty Dept allegedly had a list of all homes with the Oakridge Shingles and could have notified the home owners so they could test before the warranties ran out. They did not. They should all be fired.

Please refer to Page 18-19 in the POA 12/14 Bulletin regarding the Seniors Vs Crime actions taken on the refusal of Owens Corning to reimburse some costs incurred because of their defective shingles. It is wonderful that SVC has picked up the challenge and are working for the residents who were victims of this alleged fraud. In addiition The Village's Warranty Dept. must also be held accountable for having records and being aware of which homes that had the defective shingles and would not tell the home owners until/unless they asked.
IF YOU HAD BAD/DEFECTIVE SHINGLES PLEASE GO TO THE SENIORS VS CRIME OFFICES AT THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE ON 466 NEAR THE INTERSECTION WITH MORES BLVD. AND FILL OUT A COMPLAINT FORM. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT IN ORDER TO POTENTIALLY DEMONSTRATE HOW MANY WERE AT THE MERCY OF OC TO THE COURTS AND/OR THE FLORIDA ATTORNEY GENERAL OFFICE. YOU ARE NOT ALONE AND THERE ARE MANY WHO ALLEGEDLY HAVE BEEN ABUSED BY OC AND THE VILLAGE WARRANTY DEPT.
