Now that Ron is no longer campaigning for a national office, I hope he can get back to working for us here in Florida.

If your neighbor got a "free" roof, scam is still ongoing. Now a lot of insurance companies are requiring a new roof under their underwriting guidelines

Did they stop roofing scam? Never going to stop insurance scams. Way laws are written so lawyers get paid so they can argue till the sun don’t rise.

So you think that’s going to stop it? All that does is make the innocent/honest pay for roof that wasn’t bad cause they can’t get insurance.

Sad this is still going on. Sometime soon our insurance company will make us replace roof even if still ok.

If only the insurance companies would require their own inspections before paying for a roof.

Seen alot of homeowners insurance require new roof every 10 years in florida now. Budgeting for it is becoming common practice. Save 1000$ every year that way you dont get whacked all at once. Average roof on a average sized house here seems to be 10-12k. I know its not ideal but it is happening. Sadly. Asking for a itemized quote is one way to help keep things honest. I hear the pemits are more expensive in florida so that might be a factor. It seems to be about demand mostly. If there is no shortage of people paying it, they will keep charging it.

Ask those neighbors. They could have received a discount if they all bought one. We paid for ours and I’m sure there are those who thought it was a “free” roof.

Default New Roof

I thought it was a requirement to get a roof every 15 years, by insurance companies. Lot of scams going on by roofing companies.

My home in Royal Highlands had the original roof from 2002. I replaced it when I sold the house it in 2021. The roofing company inspector said it would probably be good for another 5 years or so, but many buyers and insurance companies might take issue with a nearly 20 year old roof...

The latest thing, aside from insurance companies requiring new roofs, is bad shingles still under warranty. The shingles have deteriorated and being under warranty you may get free shingles and a stipend for some of the labor. You still pay for sheathing and some labor, so not a free roof.

New roof every 15 years is the scam insurance companies are running on residents!

this is wise advice, put it in a money market account at 4 to 5% interest. it's what I plan to do. And when I do replace it I'm gonna stick with a 25 year shingle instead of the more expensive 50 year.

Yup. Exactly what they should do. And use inspectors that can’t be bought by roofing companies or home owner. I’m not saying all the roofing companies are scammers. This is not an issue unique to Florida. Our over-50 in Bucks County PA has same problem. Home owner brags about zero dollar roof replacement via insurance and then neighbors step up to the plate. It’s a fraud, period and two parties are involved
