Wonder where you find the information about your original roof shingles to file a warranty claim. For our vacation home in Maine when we redid the roof we had the entire roof covered in Ice and Water Shield before shingles. Will never leak even if shingles fail

Great idea if you have enough neighbors interested. All the homes in a community were roofed at the same time with the same shingles so theoretically (no, positively) all should start to fail at the same time. We live in a 2009 Pennecamp CYV. Wondering if we can expect our shingles to start failing soon. Who did your roof and was it a collaborative event??

That scam has contributed a lot to the rising premiums and non-renewals of homeowners insurance. I received a renewal for my policy with a few hundred dollars increase - not the doubling or tripling as others have had - with a letter that the price was based on having no claims. Having been in the insurance business for more than 20 years, I predicted this would happen.

Sorry folks - there ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

It’s a fraud, period and two parties are involved
Progressive, my insurance company, did require inspection by their chosen inspector. He did a thorough, time-consuming inspection and determined I needed a new roof. It was 12 years old. Therefore, at least in my case, insurance companies aren't just taking the homeowner's word for needing a new roof.

My understanding is that if your roof is no longer covered by your insurance, you still have the other coverages under your homeowner's insurance policy.

For example, if your house catches fire, that loss is covered. If you have a burst water pipe inside your house while you're away and the house is damaged by the water, that is still covered. If a visitor slips and falls on your sidewalk and sues you, that is still covered.

Only damages that can be attributed to a faulty/leaky roof are not covered. So, if you'd rather keep your current insurance without the roof leak coverage instead of spending $15K to $18K to have a new roof installed, then that's your option.

If only the insurance companies would require their own inspections before paying for a roof.

BOTH Roofer and my Insurance Co. inspected my 3 yr. old roof and said because of hail, it needed replacing.

So not knowing anything about roofs and like a dump @ss I said OK, replace it.

I should have took the $$$$ and put it toward my ins, premiums without replacement and took my chances.

Stupid is as stupid does.

I'd be more worried about mold & your entire roof structure failing, due to improper ventilation.

Ice & Water shield is not meant to cover the entire roof, especially in areas with wide temperature variations.

Funny, in the last 15 years here our house has missed all these roof-wrecking storms. I may have seen hail once for less than a minute.

I second your motion ! He better get to doing something ! Relatives tell us this whole Florida roof scam scandal is now starting in their retirement community in Arkansas ! My parents lived in Minnesota where the snow was frequent and HEAVY on the roof of our old 2 story home... the roof was 40 years old ! The ONLY thing my dad did a coupe times was "tar" near the chimney.
