Roundabumps for Village Roudabouts? Is this a good idea?

Reported as being considered for The Villages, the idea of "Roundabumps" as noted in the BLACKPOOL STAR...

"from the Blackpool Star: Roundabumps for London's roundabouts. Seen as a means to decrease speed in the roundabouts and to discourage London's clueless drivers from touring around the roundabouts, speed bumps are considered for the outside lane of two lane roundabouts. The presence of speed bumps will, according to local councilmen, encourage drivers to take the inside lane and only use the outside lane for immediate left hand turns."

I'm thinking it would cause me to avoid the outside lane except when I had to be in it to prepare for exiting the roundabout, but the added distraction of the bumps may cause more accidents than not?

How about one lane in the circle itself. The misfits I see is during jostling for position that would be non existent with one lane.

Two lane roundabouts, like we have, do seem to confuse a good deal of drivers. One lane would be far better IMO. For all the postings on this site on how to navigate the roundabouts, nothing has helped to reduce the problems we see. And speedbumps are just so awful wherever they're placed.

One lane gets my vote, not that I actually get a vote.

Two Lane Roundabout Safety

No matter what the other guy does, just follow this rule: NEVER let someone get next to you! Slow down and let them pass, thus eliminating the possibility of "getting together."

Default feeding two lanes of traffic into one at a roundabout?

The first of April improves the traffic situation greatly, as does the first of May.

the worst conditions occur here when we try to shove ten pounds of umm stuff in a five pound bag.

WHERE did you hear that speed bumps were being considered here, OP?

Hilton Head converted their two land roundabouts so that the outer lane is always exit-only (does not continue straight) and the inner circle functions as a traditional single lane rab. Works really well, even withs scads of tourists navigating the unknown pattern. I.e. The Villages

Raleigh did something similar with a much smaller circle. It looks a bit crazy from above, and works because there is substantial signage before the circle to make sure you are in the correct lane.

Sounds like an annoying plan to make traffic even more agonizingly slow.

Can't you just see the excitement and combat that would be taking place as the two lane roads merge to one lane going into the circle. I would take my lawn chair and beer and popcorn and sit at the merge point and be entertained for hours on end.

In an environment where turn signals are not used and yield is not in too many drivers vocabulary and mix it with those always in a hurry and those who don't care...........

And to add, it is just a waste of time to discuss one lane roundabouts...................it ain't gonna happen!

100% correct but it is difficult to pass up "fun" type discussions!
