Default Chaos and Mayhem?

I spent about two hours doing my share to burn a hole in the ozone layer, as I took an extended tour around the center and southern parts of TV...

This is the insanity I personally witnessed...

Nothing. Not a damn thing...

Golf carts (including mine) passed over 2 dozen bikers, and countless pedestrians, safely.

Golf carts stopped at stop signs, cars allowed golf carts to merge into the regular lane along Hillsborough and Marsh Bend Trail...

No bikes "claimed their lane", nor did they prevent anyone from trying to pass them.

I even saw 3 people out with their dogs actually pick up their dog poop! Imagine that!

Now... The bad...

ONE biker failed to stop at a stop sign. But, in his defense, it was at a newer area, under construction, so cross traffic was minimal at best.

One pedestrian was walking WITH traffic, rather than against traffic. They were easily passed, without incident...

Was I surprised by any of this? Not at all, since it's pretty much what I see every single day.

Does this mean nothing bad ever happens? Of course not. Just like anywhere else people drive, bike and walk...

I took a similar ride in the golf cart with my dog. Two things I really like about the new area. The bike/walking trails are very nice. I also love the much wider concrete water drainage inserts where the cart paths cross roads. The wider width allows a much more gradual downslope to the recessed center of the drainage depression. The much narrower drainage inserts in the northern area remind me of inverted speed bumps, or speed depressions, that are back jarring. The wider ones in the southern areas are much better on the back, and the carts suspension.

One thing that really jumped out to me was the absolute lack of signage directing golf carts from the bridge going into Brownwood to get to Buena Vista North. If one is familiar with the area, i guess I t’s no big deal. But for infrequent travelers in that area it’s like trying to navigate a maze. I had a hard time finding the way dead sober in bright daylight, I can only imagine someone leaving City Fire after a long night? It blew my mind how non existent the signage is!

Today I watched someone in a yellow golf cart run a bicyclist onto the grass on Morse Blvd. They were heading southbound toward 466 from the De la Vista area. Either a woman or a man with pretty thick longish hair, I only saw them from the back. The bicyclist was a man who was trying to stay close to the edge of the road so the golf cart could pass, but the golf cart didn't want to even try getting onto Morse (no turn signal) and instead, tailgated the bicyclist.

I felt horrible for the guy on the bike. It's not like the golf cart could GO anywhere, there was a red light up ahead and several other golf carts and a -lot- of traffic.

The entitled who are in a hurry to make it to red lights are a prevalent group - usually noticeable when we bike. The light will not turn green any sooner. When will they ever learn ?

You had me believing until you said 100% picked up dog poop! Video evidence would support your claim

Hmmmmmm, I see this everyday. It's only occasionally that I see people breaking the rules. In my 13+ years here I have found 90-95% of Villagers are kind, cooperative, pleasant, helpful folks.

And the bike will run the red light and not be in the way.

I don't have any trouble at all navigating with The Village GPS.

They won. Got to the red light before me. Been here 17 yrs., and that is one of the several juvenile driving behaviors I see daily. More: Tailgating. Also, Coming to a stop when they have the Right-of -Way. (irrational "courtesy") - including in roundabouts. TV is the only place where I've dodged hundreds of wrecks, and I've been driving for 60 yrs.
