DO NOT SIGN UP AGAIN ON SAFERESTART OR YOU WILL GO TO THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST - they will return on Thursday with 4000 shots expected this week. 2nd shots will begin next week also.

I had signed up and had an appointment before they ran out of vaccine. Got a call and email last week and got my first dose on Friday. They are re-opening the setup off of 466, but I got mine at Wildwood Community Center on Powell Rd. You should be contacted soon.

Did you have an appointment, or are you on the waiting list. If you had an appointment Sumter Health is trying to fulfill those appointments. However there were 7500 who had unfulfilled appointments and Sumter Health is working on them 1000 at a time as they get the vaccine. Look at other sites for the vaccine. Such as Publix, Lake County, Marion County, Lake-Sumter Community . college. Etc. I was fortunate to be in the first 1000 and have received my first shot.

I received an email yesterday from the Sumter Co Health Dept saying they have my info from the SafeRestart program, that I'm still on the wait list and have not lost my place "in line." They will be contacting me when vaccine doses are available again. My friend, who was registered with SafeRestart as I was, was contacted by the health dept and had her first dose a week ago over on Powel Rd at the Wildwood Community Center, instead of 466, with her second dose scheduled. While there, she asked about me being on the wait list and they assured her they had that info and would be contacting all people on the wait list in order of their place in line, when doses were available.

The purpose of this memo is to provide you an update concerning the COVID-19 vaccine situation in Sumter County and outline the next steps forward.

As many of you know, the mass vaccination effort conducted by Global Medical Response (GMR) was suspended on January 16th due to a shortage of vaccines. Since that time, the health department has been in contact with GMR and has received from them a list of persons that were appointed but did not receive vaccination. Additionally, the health department received 1,000 doses to vaccinate the public that can be applied to service this list.

Therefore, the plan for these 1,000 doses is to appoint those remaining people who received an appointment for Saturday afternoon (1/16) by GMR but were not vaccinated as well as to begin appointment for persons who were scheduled for vaccination on the early morning of 1/17. The health department will call these individuals to schedule these appointments which will be spaced out over three days; January 22nd, 25th and 27th 2021.

Beyond this, as additional doses are received by the health department from the State of Florida, I will continue to vaccinate the GMR appointment list in the chronological order of their scheduled appointment. Please understand however, that those already requiring second doses must be given priority over the list of persons needing primary doses to ensure the success of the overall vaccination effort. Second doses will be automatically scheduled and administered by the health department. You will receive a vaccination card of that second dose appointment date. No further actions are required by you.

Please note that these vaccinations will take place at the Wildwood Community Center, on 6500 Powell Road (and not at the site where GMR was doing mass vaccination). Additional vaccination sites may need to be sourced in the future as the situation warrants.

Finally, for those of you waiting for your second dose from other vaccination opportunities previously conducted by the Sumter County Health Department, that re-supply process is moving forward smoothly. You will receive your second vaccination on the date that you were given.

Please allow me to close by thanking GMR for working with the health department to provide vaccination in the most orderly manner possible under difficult circumstances. As the supply situation improves over time, GMR will likely assist the health department more directly by providing mass vaccinations.

I also want to thank you all for your patience.

My office may be reached at 352-569-3102 if you have questions regarding this letter.

Respectfully,

Sanford D Zelnick D.O.., M.S.
Director
Sumter County Health Department
This is interesting and the exact opposite of what I was told by the Sumter County Department of Health personnel that were actually doing the vaccinations yesterday at the Wildwood Community Center. I was there and they told me they were doing 2nd shots but ONLY for people that had their 1st shot done by the Sumter Health Dept. They said GMR will handle the people that had registered with them. She said if GMR does NOT provide the shots as stated then and only then will the Sumter County Health Department step in to provide shots to the people who had their first shot with GMR. But either way people will get their shots. So good news!

I am understand that you sign up one time only. Otherwise there’ll be multiple slots taken by people who’ve already signed up making for more confusion & congestion on the website.

As I understand everything I read and have emails on - GMR will be back end of this week and start we’re they left off for those who registered but didn’t get immunization, then starting on 2/9 will continue first shots AND 2nd for those who received them FROM GMR in January. Sumter DOH tried to pick up the dropped ball due to lack of vaccine, administering vaccine to those who registered with GMR.

I have decided, unless I hear otherwise from GMR, I plan to go to the vaccination site on 466 behind Fresh Market on my previously scheduled appointment date and time frame which is on February 10. I have a bar code in an email for this second shot and also the appointment is written on the back of my vaccination card which has the date and manufacturer of the vaccine on the front of the card.

I fully expect there to be people at the entrance to the vaccination site to direct people to which line they need to wait on. At that point, if there is a problem with me being there, I would imagine they would let me know then before I do any waiting on a line.

You'll get the vaccine. Don't worry.

GMR is not handling the shots anymore. The Sumter Health Dept. has received the information people filled out, and will be contacting people when it is your turn. (See posts above).
Also do not go to previous site on 466. All vaccinations will be given at Wildwood Community Center.
This info was given on WESH 2 news yesterday at 5pm.
Hope this helps.
