Theres a good article in todays paper about sale of your jewelry & coins etc. Not knowing the value of coins and jewelry, they gave some good hints. Last year was in Belk's when they had a company there, buying jewelry and coins. I went over to them and asked what they were giving pre 1964 silver coins on a dollar. They said 12.00. A week later, a company came into the hotel at Lake Sumpter, and I went there to see what their price was for same coins. He was giving (at the time) 34.00 on a dollar. I went home and sold the coins to him. Jewelry is an, all to different subject. I haven't got a clue!!! Especially costume jewelry. Maybe between the Coin Clubs here in The Villages, and maybe some kind of Jewelry Club, they could help out their fellow Villagers, before they sell? Anyway, the article in paper is worth reading before you make any decisions.

I read that article too and thought it was excellent. There is so much room for people to be taken advantage of. The first thing anyone should do according to the article is to establish fair market value for gold by weight. (I don't know how that is done) I don't have jewelry and old coins so I don't know a thing about it but I do know that a lot of people become very rich in this area off the ignorance of older people.

You did good. The average going rate, depending on daily market, at this time would be about $30.00 for the coins you mentioned.

Probably depends on which market you are addressing. The silver dollars for collectors may very well be $12, but the same silver dollar sold for salvage will most likely be more based on weight.
