Sand/soil to fill in gaps and holes in a newly sodded lawn
Can anyone recommend where to get appropriate sand or soil to fill in the ruts and crevices in a newly sodded lawn? How long is a yard or two allowed to sit in the driveway. It will probably take a couple of days to spread it.

interesting topic, I've got a few of those ruts and crevices too.
I'd expect the sand sitting for a reasonable time isn't much to ask for. makes my back hurt thinking about it |

That depends on your physical condition!
Two yards of sand weighs around 8,000 lbs

I've used a top dressing for all the new yards I've had - I'm on my 5th. Filliing in the gaps and holes and smoothing out the contours reduces scapling and is easier to mow.

Re: Sand/soil to fill in gaps and holes in a newly sodded lawn
you really do not have to fill in the gaps with sand. after a few months the grass fills in everything. Look at some of the good looking lawns that nothing was done just fertilizer and mowing. Save your back

Re: Sand/soil to fill in gaps and holes in a newly sodded lawn
We have Bermuda grass here in Ark and I know what you mean about uneven spots, even though they smoothed out the yard before they laid the sod. We finally filled in with a mix of sand and dirt and it doesn't take long for the aggressive Bermuda to grow right up through all that dirt. You can't even tell where we did it in the yard. Good Luck!

Hi there,
The best thing to do is nothing. The grass will fill in all voids, within a short period. RDM |
