I have sold a few things recently and this is definitely a scam. I got responses just like this. Never never accept anything but cold hard cash. Also, asking you if you will accept a Zelle payment is also a scam!!!! I got no less than10 responses asking immediate for my phone number and/or demanding me to accept Zelle payment. All the responses were identical, so I was suspicious enough to research if they were scans. Don’t even accept Venmo or PayPal. There’s a way for them to take the money back doing that. Don’t give out your phone number or address. Keep your communication within the site you posted and have them meet you at a rec center or mailbox parking lot. I got so many of these scammers responses, that a few months ago, when I was selling furniture, I had the person meet me at the mailbox and then had them follow me to my house. If they showed up to the mailbox, I knew they were legitimate.

You mean all of the posts saying it was a SCAM? Yeah, they were certainly "dumb assed"...

This has happened to me several times when I’ve tried to sell things in this area. It is a common SCAM. Do NOT agree. I always sold things soon to good buyers after that. A similar scam is for people to offer an insultingly low price, like half of what you ask for. There are people or gangs probably that, say, go to used musical instrument sale sites and offer half or less to a hundred people, eventually find someone desperate who will sell, make the purchase, then resell it for the original asking price. This is legal, but you should know that it’s a business model. Lower the price if you like, but that offer may not be the best you will get.

Default Scam Money Orders

That’s how they work.
This trick is so old...using personal or business checks or money orders that can easily be forged. Cash and carry! If not, I would not accept any payment method that I did not witness being created or is verified.

Examples: Go with buyer to place who "sells" money orders. If legitimate, will probably use credit card to purchase the money order (some places may not accept credit cards to purchase money orders). Anyway, when you witness the payment method being verfied by a legitimate bank or financial entity, you then can feel comfortable about the non-cash payment method being valid.

Caution!!!!

A retired couple in Mt. Dora was murdered recently by some one they let into their house. Lesson: If you can afford to do so, donate the furniture. The few bucks you might make selling it is not worth the risk of opening your door to a stranger.

Please explain how a Zelle payment to you can be a scam. To me, a Zelle payment is equivalent to cash, the money won't transfer into your account if it wasn't in the sender's account and once you have the money it cannot be taken back. How does this become a scam?

They tell you they sent a Zelle payment and then claim it won't go thru because your account needs to be updated.

The e-mail will include a link to do this. It will look like a Zelle website, but the header will be wrong.

If you sign in, you'll be giving them your account info and password... Bye Bye money!

I was selling some musical equipment on e-Bay and I received no less than 5 of these scam attempts... I won't get into specifics about how I responded, but it was instructions on how to "self-copulate"... Oddly, I never heard back form them...

Rather than click on their link, I went to my Zelle app and all was fine.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER respond to a link received by e-mail for any banking activity. Open a new window and go to the site YOU usually use. And problems will be listed there...

All the scams on FB marketplace and other sites begin with a long tale of why they can’t pick it up in person. The checks they mention aren’t going to clear.

Block them and move on
