Default Screen Names and Avitars

When I read about Mikitv changing her screen name and Graciegirl's remark about people never really knowing who they actually are, I thought of a post I put on another discussion forum.

How did you come up with your screen name and, some of us, our avitar? Some people's are easy to figure out, but not everyone's is. I came up with my screen name yyyeeeeaaaaaaarrrrsssss ago. When we were setting up our e-mail accounts with AOL, my wife asked me what I wanted mine to be. I hadn't really thought about it before, so I just very quickly said to use my initials, "get", and then I said to use my truck tag number, "dul981". My initials are obviously the same, but that old truck and tag # are long gone. My avitar is a glass turtle pendant that I made. As soon as I get to TV, I've got to get working on making some frogs.

My husband has called me Pooh for years. Friends have called me Patty Pooh also....so if I don't use my name, I just use Pooh.

Have a picture of Pooh Bear at Disney World giving me a hug and I was going to use that for my avatar, but it looked like I was being strangled by a giant yellow bear when it was made smaller....lol.

Having worked in the computer industry for way too many years, (still do) thought it was an appropriate 'handle' to use. The term originated with macro-assemblers, where the idea is to make available to the programmer a sequence of computing instructions as a single program statement. Being a basically lazy person, I work very hard trying to make things simple. (takes me twice as long) The avatar I'm using is a pic of my favorite Toy when I finally got it looking the way I wanted. Hope to be using it extensively in TV.

Thanks for the explanations. Macro, I would not have figured out your screen name, but I had an idea your avitar was a motorcycle. I have always said that if you want to find out the easiest way to do something, give the job to a lazy person.

And Pooh, I would have thought that you had a love for Pooh Bear. See how things aren't always as they seem?

With the age of the people on the internet back in the 80s/90s, I was considered an oldie so I decided to be a caveman - older than dirt. When I first started I was Alley Oop - my favorite comic caveman. When I went into the Compuserve chat sites, everyone thought I was a girl named Alley. They had never heard of Alley Oop. So I changed my named to zcaveman. The z insured that I ended up near the end of the userid lists so when I am in contests I just go to the bottom the see if I am a WINNER.

Hagar is my avatar because I just always liked Hagar. When Dick Browne was his writer, he came across with several scripts that fitted me to a tee. Hagar is still my favorite comic strip.

That just goes to prove that you actually are older than dirt.

And, because of that, I have a headpiece which anyone who is "Older Than Dirt" may borrow!

It was given to me last March in celebration of my unidentified birthday. Let's just say, older than 70!"

So, Z, you're welcome to wear it to your next birthday party!

My screen name is a complex compilation of my first name and the first initial of my last name.

My avatar is my 1953 MGTD retirement car.

In honor of my becoming a FROG I am changing my screen name to .............

My screen name is my first name and last initial. Lary with one R is because my father was called Larry and back in my hippie years I didn't want him opening my mail and packages so the one R. The avatar is my bullmastiff Murphy, and if you can see the avatar (lately the avatars on my screen are messed up, graciegirl with russ boston"s picture, mine with a U, etc) his tonque is always hanging out. Big gentle slob who couldn't bite anyone because he would bite his own tonque!

Default Rag ******

It's the name given to boaters that sail. Rag ****** refering to sails as rags.

I spent my entire adult life as a recreational sailor on The Great Lakes. At retirement we moved aboard our boat and cruised From The Great Lakes to The Bahamas and everything inbetween. We were snow birds on the water for about 5 years.

Now I am a dirt dweller in TV. Miss the boat but love this place just as much as the ocean.
