It is very crowded when trying to get lap pool time, especially at Seabreeze, from 3-6 p.m.

I agree. Every time I go to Seabreeze between 3 - 6, there are no lap lanes available. Up north, we share a lane if the lanes are all taken. But when I asked if I could share a lane at Seabreeze, I've been told rather curtly, "NO!". I sometimes ask the water walkers if I can swim in their half and they've been very kind to allow me to swim while they water walk. Do lap swimmers at Seabreeze "own their lanes"????

It's been my experience (this year) that folks who come to Colony pool sometimes don't realize that we can share the lanes...at least for walking. What is the thought on people swimming laps amongst the walkers w/o asking? I would think safety could be an issue. ( Glad Swimdawg that you were able to to share.) Did you use the lane closest to the blue ropes?? I do hope that there will be more sport pools south of 466A!!!!

Up north there was a sign posted that if you'd already done 30 minutes and the lanes were full to move out of the pool so others could have their chance. Also, as Swimdawg speaks of (and I"m sure we weren't from the same area) folks who swam shared the lane when it was needed. Just a couple of thoughts!!!

With 50 plus pools in TV, I do not see a problem with closing one for a couple of hours for swim lessons. SAVING CHAIRS at the town center is a problem! Oh that's for another post

Boy is it getting bad here. What a bunch of complainers.Do you really see this as a big problem. My goodness go to another pool.Certainly seens that we are the "ME" generations. Had kids up north looking at this posts, they could not stop laughing. Grow Up.

I believe non-residents can take the classes but they have to pay more.

So, what did the rec department have to say??

I disagree with these complaints.

The pool is closed for two hours out of a WHOLE day.
That covers TWO classes back to back.

The fact is these VILLAGERS are paying the Llifelong Learning College for a course to learn to swim. The College rented the pool for these two hours to run the class. If there was miscomunication in posting it in the paper, well, it's not the instructor's fault. Stuff happens.

It doesn't matter how many showed up on that particular day. Stuff happens.

When I take water aerobics, the pool is limited to only those in the class DURING the class. (and my class is free to residents, not paid.) Nobody waves their hands in the air over that. Men's water volleyball is right after my class.
Sorry, but you can't do laps in the middle of THAT either.

There are many other sport pools/family pools that you can go to if you HAVE to go at that particular time. You help pay for THEM too, so you aren't denied your amenities one little bit.
I'd like to say,"Kwitcherbichin.... but that's probably not nice, is it.
Stop bellyaching if you don't mind. The universe does not revolve around you. Does that sound better?

I don't see this post as rude. It is what it is.

I would think someone could figure out a way to have the classes use only the number of lanes they require. Maybe orange cones on the not available lanes, or a notice that lanes 1 through X are not available today between Y and Z time. One other observation is that Seabreeze seems to be one of the most popular rec center pools. Perhaps doing the classes at a less busy center. Not sure how many hours the classes take each day, but maybe doing it before the center opens or after it closes. There has to be times when LAP lane usage is not very busy, so schedule the class then. Split the class into two sessions on two different days and don't combine until the numbers drop. I would think 12 beginning swimmers with one instructor would be a bad ratio anyway from a safety concern. Maybe rotate the rec center used for the classes so that the "regulars" at a center have less impact. There has to be a way to make it work for everyone, just some smart person needs to see and understand the problem then figure out a solution.

You guys do realize that we’re talking about the Sports Pools, right? There aren’t 50 Sports Pools in TV. I can only think of 3 between 466 and 466a. It’s not simply a matter of jumping back into your cart and going to the next pool down the road. You can’t swim laps in the neighborhood or family pools. And all of the Sports Pool have their own scheduled activities throughout the day.

La Hacienda where I usually swim there are so many water aerobics classes and water volleyball games that the lap swimming times are few and far between. So, that is why I sometimes take a ride to Seabreeze to swim and to all of a sudden find a note on the door is annoying. I always go in my golf cart. When I find that sign I am annoyed inside myself but never say anything rude to anyone, stuff happpens, my life still goes on if I miss a day of swimming. I will say that sometimes at Seabreeze when I have asked if I can share a lane I have gotten that same NO answer. Savannah sport pool is closed for about a month(a large notice in Rec News) for repairs and maintanaice, everyone finds alternate pools.
Bye the way, I can't understand why everyone in a swim class needs their own lane, I never taught swimming where everyone had their own lane.

Wow! I didn't realize that. So, even if classes are held in rec centers, non-residents who are enrolled can go with no problems? That's good to know!

Skybo,
We have a number of lap swimmers and walkers at our Tamarind Grove neighborhood pool. There aren't any lane markers, but no one seems to mind and we try to be considerate of one another's space.

Those who swim/walk do it when the space allows. Early morning and around dinnertime affords a pretty empty pool. I've even found a spot to work in the water with my Therabands at that time and share the pool with no problem or complaints.
The middle of the day probably won't work.... but I don't have a problem with that. The universe doesn't revolve around ME either! :jester:

Skybo 03-27-2012 11:41 AM

Uptown, I realize that...but I just wanted folks to be clear on the type of pool that was being discussed. There are many neighborhood pools where people will complain if anyone tries to lap swim or exercise (I’ve seen it happen). But you are correct, TG has really nice people. :)

Mudder 03-27-2012 04:50 PM

Uptown girl, serious lap swimmers cannot really swim in the other pools...they are way too small. Most lap swimmers know the distance they want to swim and how many lengths it takes, neighborhood and family pools just don't cut it. Imagine trying to play tennis on a pickleball court, thats what it feels like to lap swimmers in family or neighborhood pools.

paulandjean 03-27-2012 06:13 PM

Maybe in such a emergency this person had,in not being able to swim his or her laps,They could do this maybe one or two times in another pool.
