I have to tell you that the majority of the people who came wanting to swim laps were unbelievably rude!!!! It is true the classes were not listed in the activities paper but was not the fault of the teacher. The rec centers are the ones who put the activities in the paper and they definitely screwed up. They did post signs on the front doors with very, very bright yellow paper but some people still came in and gave the teacher a hard time. Granted today which was the last day of class there were only four of us but the class did start with 12 people each of us being taught in individual lanes. Several people were so deathly afraid of the of putting their face in the water they just never came back.

What I don't understand is why are people complaining about the Lifelong Learning College renting the pool. We all paid a pretty penny to take these lessons and were more than willing to because of the reputation of the swimming instructor. Back in the fall I paid to take line dancing classes through the College and I didn't hear anyone complaining about the room in the rec center being rented out for those classes.

Truthfully with all the pools in the Villages I am appalled at all the nasty, rude and inconsiderate people who came into our class and wanted to argue it out with our instructor. For goodness sakes...... it was only 6 classes!!!!

I have only been in the Villages for a little less than a year and am shocked at the behavior of the people we encountered during this class. All I can say is with as may pools that there are in the Villages if I ever complain about not being able to go to one of them because classes are being held then please.... just shoot me!!!!!!!

Right on, SeashoreCaroline!!!!!!

It’s not simply a matter of jumping back into your cart and going to the next pool down the road. You can’t swim laps in the neighborhood or family pools. And all of the Sports Pool have their own scheduled activities throughout the day.

So true. Thanks for clarifying this.

It doesn't take much to imagine the outcry if an Executive Golf Course were closed in order to give 9 beginning golf students lessons, with one student per hole.

I would think someone could figure out a way to have the classes use only the number of lanes they require. Maybe orange cones on the not available lanes, or a notice that lanes 1 through X are not available today between Y and Z time. One other observation is that Seabreeze seems to be one of the most popular rec center pools. Perhaps doing the classes at a less busy center. Not sure how many hours the classes take each day, but maybe doing it before the center opens or after it closes. There has to be times when LAP lane usage is not very busy, so schedule the class then. Split the class into two sessions on two different days and don't combine until the numbers drop. I would think 12 beginning swimmers with one instructor would be a bad ratio anyway from a safety concern. Maybe rotate the rec center used for the classes so that the "regulars" at a center have less impact. There has to be a way to make it work for everyone, just some smart person needs to see and understand the problem then figure out a solution.

l2ridehd, excellent post as usual.

Rather than bickering about who is right and who is wrong, I salute you for proposing potentially satisfying solutions!

How mature......

I was in the Lifelong L. course and I can attest to the rude people the instructor encountered each of the 3 weeks. Time was taken from our class by these people who continually challenged her, during the entire hour.

On Monday when we were down to 2 people, the lanes were open to all.

Classes are over - have a healthy swim!

Oh lighten up, it was a joke. Maybe if more people around here had a sense of humor I wouldn't see so many grumpy faces. Remember, laughter is the best medicine! Besides, I don't feel that this subject deserves all of the drama it has received from either side but mostly from the whiners who couldn't swim their laps that day.

This thread has gone on and on...so one can "feel" that there are alot of folks who use the sport pools. I have to wonder if they couldn't have "reserved" the pool for late in the day (say like 6 pm) when there isn't much traffic and maybe just allot a portion of the pool for the class in case somebody shows up for walking or swimming laps. As for rudeness---it's an unfortunate attitude that spills over to more than just the pools. Don't know how one can change that EXCEPT to not fall into the trap of reciprocating it. Maybe just act like you didn't hear it OR act as if you didn't hear it and show kindness back. Most folks that act that way here, acted that way before they came and it's just another form of bullying!!!

We sometimes come to the Parrothead gatherings, we are not villagers, BUT we are rentors, when we go along to gatherings. Once or twice a year, if we are lucky!
We are hoping to be villagers in the not too distant future!

I'm not sure why you would continue to look at this posting if it's making you angry and embarrassed. Will it end? You have 5 postings on this subject, certainly doesn't help. I do see allot of the comments are constructive thoughts & ideas.

I was turned away from the pool by the swim instructor last week. The instructor had four students and the rest of the Seabreaze pool was empty. I always go to either Colony or Lake Miona if my first choice pool (Seabreaze) is full. I will say I was not happy to be turned away from a more than half empty sports pool. The instructor explained to me that it was not her who made the rules but the college.

When I was told the pool was closed, I turned around and started walking to the gate to exit. Then I stopped, and asked the instructor if I could use one of the empty lanes at the opposite end of the pool. I did not have an altercation....just a simple question. When I was told "no" and the college made the rules, not her, I left the pool area. Is that considered rude? Just wondering.

It is very crowded when trying to get lap pool time, especially at Seabreeze, from 3-6 p.m.

I certainly agree.

But when I asked if I could share a lane at Seabreeze, I've been told rather curtly, "NO!". I sometimes ask the water walkers if I can swim in their half and they've been very kind to allow me to swim while they water walk. Do lap swimmers at Seabreeze "own their lanes"????

I always offer to share my lane if I see someone waiting for a lane and I would hope someone would extend the same courtesy. I know it doesn't happen most of the time so I just go to another sport's pool is there is combo or lap swim going on.
