Got ants here too ! Met a guy in Home Depo also buying ant baits, said they come in through the drains.... Never had them before, strange looking ants, with an elongated rear body.... Most are dead on arrival....some are moving very slowly.... regular ant bait and Terro liquid ant bait don't seem to work on them.... I do spray with Taurus s/c around the outside of the house every month....

In the last 5 days, I have had the winged ants too. Mostly under my vents. For some reason I thought the big storm had driven them in. How do we get rid of airborne insects?

How anyone can use a kitchen filled with ants everywhere is beyond me but if this is the norm for TV then sadly, this is Not the place for me ;(
I would also suspect the flooring brought in unwelcome pests. If the ants died upon entering, your pest treatment is working.

Default seasonal ants takeover ??

I've been here for two years, and saw my first ants three days ago. Not nearly as many as what you're describing, though. Dean's told me the same thing about swarms. Although they offered to come out and spray, I opted to just monitor the situation over the next couple of days and wait for them to die out (they told me that each ant only lives about 24 hours). So far, no ants today.

RICH1 Said it in #20.....TERRO......it's a bait, and will attract tons of ants for about a week.....you can see the trail of ants bringing it back to the nest, where they feed the others. They will die off in time, but if you feed them, they will come.....then they will go.
You can get TERRO in any hardware, or Walmart.... it will work.
BTW, the ants get in one way or another. I've tracked them once to a wall/ceiling joint....no visible way to get in but they found a "pin hole" and disappeared !!!

Have used this recipe many times to kill ants. It will kill sugar ants, fire ants and even carpenter ants. Furthermore, it will get the queen and take down the colony.

Mix 3 parts POWDERED sugar with 1 part Borax. Add enough water to make it a liquid - past the point where it is a paste. Mix well - you should not see any solids.

Find several suitable small containers such as the lids of bottles. Whatever you choose, it should be something that the ants can easily climb in and out of. You don't want to trap them. They should be free to come and go.

Finally get some cotton balls. Soak (saturate) a cotton ball in the mixture and place it in a lid. Put the lid where you have seen ants. If you actively see ants, put one down right next to them (they are stupid). They are attracted to the sugar; the boric acid will kill them (slowly as to give them time to bring it back to the nest).

Keep in mind that this is TOXIC TO PETS. Do not put this where a pet can reach it. Wash your hands after this process.

If you see ants swarming on it, leave them alone. Don't kill them. They will feed and take the poison back to the queen. She will die and then the colony will die.

If leaving out for more than a couple of days, add a few drops of water as needed to keep the cotton balls moist.

My experience: fully effective in 24-48 hours. But, I usually leave them out for a week. No expensive exterminators.

Default It’s the season

We have ants too. Not sugar ants, but a bit bigger ants…not flying. They seem to appear out of nowhere. We have a few crawling here and there, they seem to die quickly. I just go around and pick them up with a paper towel and done. They do go away fairly quickly. They are in the pool too! The pool bugs…..that’s for another thread!

Default Sugar Ants!

Hello, Go to Ace Hardware and they will give you a ant killer called TERRO for sugar ants, put a couple of drops on the paper that comes with the bottle and the next day or two the ants are gone. They swarm to the drops and bring it back to colony killing the queen. Also they have another product that gets rid of regular ants, I use peppermint along baseboards and doorway, not only keeps ants out also spiders. Hope this helps.

So you left your home because of ants, were they fire ants that bite and sting or are you just afraid?

They are neither ants nor termites. They are called "stone flies". Their larvae lie dormant for many, many years. When conditions are favorable, they hatch and emerge in their winged form. Their life span is 2-3 days at the most. They are essentially harmless, although annoying. There has been a huge hatch this year.

Default Ants in house

[SIZE="6"] My house was empty for 5 years before we bought it. After about the 1st year I started noticing ants. They got so bad I had to call Massey - I had tried everything. After several treatments - the final solution was they were in, an inside wall - so he put stuff in the outlets (after removing them). They are quite diminished now - I put out glue traps to see how many I catch. I am down to about 8 in a month - thank goodness Massey comes and treats as many times as they do without extra charges.
