Now... one more time.
Is there any REAL reason this is not feasible?
Around 4:30 a Villagers staff member could go through the seating area gathering up all the cushions, ropes, tapes, towels, etc. Of course there would be signs posted and an announcement made before the clean up.
In the past this suggestion was criticized because it would be "expensive to hire additional staff." People pretended you would actually have to hire additional staff for a 5-minute cleanup. Isn't there Villages staff on duty already?
Oh NO!! Bullies might start trouble!! Then the police get called and they are thrown out or arrested. Isn't that what happened when that moron started with the lady in the square? It might happen once or twice but would end soon.
The number of seat-savers would drop nightly until the problem disappeared completely.

You don't need a blue-ribbon committee or a million-dollar research grant or the U.N. to solve this.
It's not that complicated.
Pretending this is an unsolvable problem is just a way of not solving it.

No... "Karma's gonna get him" is not an answer either.

Just because no saving is a "rule" and not a "law" doesn't mean you are helpless.
To suggest everyone bring their own chairs is just burdening hundreds for the actions of a few.

This might take 10 minutes. If this was done consistently, and everyone knows it's going to be done, and signs are clearly posted stating that it will be done, wouldn't even the self-centered morons learn pretty quickly that seat saving is prohibited and will not be tolerated? You return and your stuff is gone, and too bad for you. Not held for you, but trashed! Who are you going to punch? Whose wrist are you going to grab? Whose feet will you step on?

I have met more stubborn, opinionated, focused old people than I ever dreamed existed since I moved here. Remember that woman who insisted on doing aerobic classes in the neighborhood pool after she was told not too? MANY times?

I am stubborn and old too. But when someone tells me to stop something, I do.

Except for posting.

a lot.

But wouldn't it be up to the people who own the entertainment end of the business and not TV? Or is that part of the problem... they each think the other should take care of it?

How about whoever now does the maintenance on the square picks up the assorted "seat saving" trash at 4:30. I'm assuming there is someone providing clean up. If they feel they need security then whoever is security that night can walk with them for the 5-10 minutes it would take. No problem... that's what "security" is.
These are staff who are already there... not additional staff.

Hey guys,

This is The Villages - not 1890's Dodge City! We do NOT need vigilantes of residents patrolling the Squares!

The seat saving is such a minor thing and does not require mob rule.

Thank you!

You are right; seat saving is a minor annoyance.
Can you imagine a vigilante from The Villages telling a Stonecrester that their jacket is in the garbage?
And rumor has it, a lot of people carry concealed!
:boom:

Cedwards38 06-05-2016 06:36 AM

You're right that it is not hunger or world peace, but it's not a minor problem for the woman who got roughed up, nor for the bully who did the roughing, nor for the thousands who view this and other posts on the subject, and comment on the same.

And the solution seems simple to me:
(1) Post signs saying that there is no saving and that stuff will be raked up and trashed.
(2) Rake up and trash any "saving stuff" at around 4:30 PM.
(3) Utilize existing security to make sure no one gets rowdy.
(4) Morons quickly get the picture that saving seats is not going to work.

No vigilantes. No one to punch, grab, shoot, or step on. No finger pointing. No one to provide an explanation, or at whom one can get angry. Same standard for Villager, Spruce Creeker, Stonecrester, Wildwooder, or vagabond.

I wasn't really gonna do it, Richard.

We have had two incidents that I am aware of that police were called about confrontations about chairs. That is my memory in nine plus years of three squares, tons of people, and operating every night of the year except Christmas. The business that is in charge is the Entertainment Department, until recently owned by the Vescos. Only they can decide if it is feasible or warranted to remove items from seat savers. Weighing what their lawyers tell them and the cost of this minor procedure.

It is galling to those of us who think, believe, know that it is a selfish thing to do, but obviously there are many who think that reserving seats is their right, privilege and consider it a form of planning.

The more I know about people, the better I like dogs.

Why don't they just put the chairs out 1/2 hr before the entertainment starts to try and eliminate this. My husband was checking out the cameras the other day and saw them saving seats @ around noon for this same event. It's just disgraceful.:22yikes:

Just do the chairs the same way as they have done in Brownwood square......folding chairs in racks that are brought out about 4:30pm and people can get their own chairs from the racks....no plastic chairs in the square at all during the day.

justjim 06-05-2016 08:20 AM

Common sense

Your solution is too simple and makes too much common sense.

Sounds good. Do people save seats in the grandstand at Brownwood? (I don't know because I've never been by there early)
