What if they drilled holes into all the seats, then what ? |
This has been discussed numerous times on TOTV. The last thread had 14,000+ views... and an earlier thread over 10,000. And yet nothing changes... and nothing will change. Of course, if someone is injured or killed in a fight they'll get right on it (and be shocked that there was the unforeseen problem).
It's been suggested that about 4:30 a Villagers staff member could go through the seating area gathering up all the cushions, ropes, tapes, towels, etc. This suggestion was criticized because it would be "expensive to hire additional staff." People pretended you would actually have to hire additional staff for a 5-minute cleanup. The number of seat-savers would drop nightly until the problem disappeared completely. Of course there would be signs posted and an announcement made before the clean up. Just because no saving is a "rule" and not a "law" doesn't mean you are helpless. To suggest everyone bring their own chairs is just burdening hundreds for the actions of a few. |
I think human nature hasn't changed in 3,000 years as it's not going to start now. People are human, with their own emotions.
A rule is not breaking the law and enforcing the rule of "not saving seats", is something the powers to be, don't want to get involved with. At least, not to the point of having a physical confrontation. IMHO Does anyone they know, want to see their friend as an event coordinator have a fight, with a troublemaker? What happened to being nice to one another and having respect for others? This has been an ongoing problem for many years and I personally, don't have much hope of the saving seats rule, being enforced. So far, I haven't heard a viable solution to this problem. |

Seat Bully

Viable solution...starting at three o'clock and every half hour until five o'clock have an entertainment worker remove any stuff from the seats. Seat saving will stop within a month. |

I always bring a chair, if I think it will be difficult, getting a seat. Not worth the hassle of confronting belligerent people. It's what to do with TV chairs that are provided, that concerns me. Some people don't want to lug chairs with them. I wonder how many people have seen R&R several times and need to have the best seats in the square? I know the shaded areas get taken first. |

It seems to me that the one solution that no one has suggested is we all stand together and have a group of people patrol the square nightly and remove the stuff. There is safety in numbers, a dozen people will be less likely to be attacked by one bully.

IMHO, in a retirement community, chairs need to be provided. And really, if people brought chairs, would chair placement then become an issue? Chances are it would cause more friction, not less. People who feel "entitled" will still feel they should have the "best" front row seats. People could set up chairs in front of other chairs, even on the dance floor. I think this solution would only exacerbate the problem. |

I sincerely doubt you'd find 36 vigilantes who care enough about seat saving to go on patrol and remove stuff. |
Yesterday at Brownwood around 4:15 PM they had a crate of chairs near where I was parked. People would get their own chair and go put it where they wanted it.
I was there having just seen X-Men: Apocalypse at Barnstorm Theater. Riccardi's Italian Table was behind me to the right. Ricciardi's Italian Table - Gourmet Italian Dining The Villages, Fl - Ricciardi's Italian Table - Our Table |
