I used to work with exconvicts. Nothing you put up can keep one out if they want in. One guy said he just used a Sawzall recipricating saw and cut a hole through the wall of the house to get in.

It's probably very easy to find one that those things WILL penetrate.

If someone wants to break into your house, they will. Where would you stop? So you pay $1,000 for a screen door but then you have all your windows. Metal bars is really what you're looking for but then what? Have you really protected against a simple lock-picker or someone getting past the garage door? What happens when you open the door to leave the house and someone jumps out of the bushes?

The Villages is really a fairly safe place. If anything I'd be more concerned that all the security would prevent fire fighters from gaining entry to stop a fire (perhaps more likely than a forced entry).

Why would you want a screen that lets all the stuff to penetrate it. Sounds like you could just use regular screen from Lows or Home Depot.

You may want to explore extra strong glass. It is readily available. It will of course be more expensive that replacing a broken and or chipped glass pane. Is it worth it????
I would expect, pebbles from a lawnmower never hit the same window twice so you would probably need to replace all of your windows. A side benefit, the thicker glass
would likely make your home quieter and perhaps lessen your AC and heating cost.

There is a product called LEXAN, 25 times stronger than glass, you can get it at Lowe's. Now a word of caution, I used this up north to replace some windows in the basement as the neighbor had been broken into using these. I had to notify the fire department since THESE CANNOT typically be broken during an emergency.

OP, not sure what you are trying to accomplish but before you make sure you check with the building department before you make any changes or purchase any materials.

Thanks to all who replied answering my question.

For the rest of replies, no I am not afraid of safety of living in The Villages. Very simply , I want to sleep with the window open. Rest of house locked.

I want to open front door during the day and want it more secure than plain screen. Security screen doors have heavy locks and door frame.

I am a senior lady whose has the common sense to take care of myself. It is as simple as that.
